Requirements of the role
The BSB Investigations and Enforcement team is responsible for investigating allegations against barristers and taking disciplinary or other action on behalf of the BSB. The postholder will provide specialist legal support to Case Officers, Senior Case Officers and managers within the Investigations and Enforcement Team (I&E).
The postholder will undertake a broad range of tasks to support the team in all aspects of its work, including assisting with the preparation of cases for consideration by Independent Decision-making Body panels and tribunals. The role includes liaising with key stakeholders, such as barristers, information providers, witnesses, the Bar Adjudication and Tribunals Service (‘BTAS’), members of the public and key internal stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities Of The Post
- Create, collate and redact bundles
- Apply rules of evidence and public law principles
- Maintaining up-to-date and accurate records on the Case Management System (CMS)
- Attending disciplinary tribunal and appeal hearings
- Completing other ad hoc tasks, such as drafting clear and accurate correspondence, compiling witness statements, acting as a point of contact for witnesses, monitoring cases and case progression and performing discrete tasks as allocated.
Key Skills And Experience Required Include
- Degree or equivalent experience in a similar role
- Experience of supporting lawyers in litigation and/or tribunal work
- Collating, reviewing and finalising bundles of evidence
- Attention to detail
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Knowledge of rules of evidence
- Team work
- IT literate
