A well‑established Oakland-based defense law firm is seeking a temporary Litigation Paralegal to support its civil litigation team during a medical leave. This is a hands‑on role supporting defense attorneys in active matters, with opportunity for conversion if the fit is strong on both sides. This role is 40 hours a week and does require on-site capability in Oakland, CA.
Key Responsibilities
- Support defense attorneys with civil litigation matters from discovery through trial preparation
- Prepare and manage discovery production, including document review, redaction, and organization
- Assist with trial preparation, including witness and exhibit materials
- Draft and update medical chronologies and summaries
- Review medical records, imaging, and accident-related photos, including sensitive or graphic materials
- Prepare deposition summaries and review deposition transcripts
- Assist with research and case support projects as assigned
- Maintain accurate timekeeping and support billable litigation workflows
Qualifications
- Prior experience as a litigation paralegal, ideally in defense-side civil litigation or insurance defense
- Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel) and PDF software (Adobe, Kofax, or similar)
- Excellent time management, organizational skills, and attention to detail
- Comfortable handling high-volume litigation tasks in a fast‑paced environment
- Experience with court filings, discovery, and trial prep strongly preferred
- Ability to handle confidential and sensitive case materials professionally
- Reliable transportation to and from the Oakland office for required in‑office days
