About the Opportunity:
A long-standing Houston-based law firm (20+ year client) is urgently seeking a Paralegal to join their Public Finance team supporting Municipal Utility Districts (MUDs). This is a rare opportunity to work on impactful local governance issues with excellent exposure to legal processes and client interaction. The role is high-visibility, deadline-driven, and billable.
Key Requirements – No Exceptions:
Paralegal Certificate with Strong Academic Performance
Reliable personal transportation (evening client meetings required)
Strong written communication skills – a writing sample is required
High-level proficiency with Microsoft Office 365
Preferred Background:
Bachelor’s Degree in English, Communications, Writing, Political Science, or related field
Interest in public finance, local government, or board governance
Experience or knowledge of MUDs, special districts, or public law (a plus)
Core Responsibilities:
Attend and document Board of Directors meetings (some evenings required)
Draft agendas, orders, and resolutions; prepare meeting minutes
Collaborate with district engineers, tax assessors, operators, and board members
Assist in preparing and reviewing legal documents related to bond issuance
Maintain district files, legal documents, and client billing records
Prepare filings for annexations, tax exemptions, investment reviews, and permits
Track and report billable hours using internal systems
Systems & Tools:
Microsoft Office 365
NetDocuments, LMS+ (a plus)
Adobe Acrobat Pro
Compensation & Benefits:
Competitive salary: $85,000 – $95,000
