Normal Work Hours: 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
Normal Work Days: Monday through Friday
Education/Experience: Must possess at least a high school diploma/GED and a minimum of four years animal control officer experience. Requires NACA I and NACA II certifications. Equivalent education, training, experience, skills, and knowledge may be considered.
Position Summary: Provide daily supervision of Animal Control Officer (ACO) staff to ensure the adequate performance of job duties related to enforcing the City’s Ordinances pertaining to the health, welfare, licensing, and control of animals.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Provide daily supervision of Animal Control Officer (ACO) staff to ensure the adequate performance of job duties related to enforcing the City’s Ordinances pertaining to the health, welfare, licensing and control of animals. Monitors Field operations. Assists ACO staff in performing their duties.
Ensure appropriate daily ACO staffing by developing and communicating staff schedules, distributing workloads, and arranging/providing for staff coverage as needed to cover daily operational needs.
Ensure timely and effective response to Animal Control-related complaints and maintain accurate and complete records of such complaints, responses, and outcomes.
Take lead role in enforcing and managing animal control ordinances; testify in court as required/necessary; Assist Director in writing and maintaining operational polices, developing staff training and making recommendations for new/improved Ordinances related to Animal Control. Coordinate activities and cooperate with other city and county departments/officials on the enforcement of Animal Control Ordinances. (Ex. Police, City attorney, Clark County Prosecutor)
Provide initial job training and ongoing performance feedback to ACO staff. Assist the Director with hiring ASO staff; provide constructive input on hire decisions and performance management.
Performs related duties and assumes other responsibilities as apparent or delegated/assigned.

Education and/or Experience
Must possess at least a high school diploma/GED and a minimum of four years animal control officer experience. Requires NACA I and NACA II certifications. Equivalent education, training, experience, skills, and knowledge may be considered.
Licenses and Certifications
Maintain valid Driver’s License; Euthanasia Certification and NACA I and NACA II certifications.
Computer Skills
To perform this job successfully, an individual should have thorough knowledge of Microsoft Outlook email; and Microsoft Word Processing software and Petpoint Case management.
Other Skills and Abilities
Operate department vehicles and equipment; catch poles, cat tongs and bite stripes; set animal traps; knowledge of darts/dart gun operation.
Language Skills
Ability to read and interpret documents such as detailed safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, government regulations, and procedure manuals; Can create/write routine reports and correspondence with minimal supervisory oversight; Can speak appropriately and effectively and respond to routine questions from court officials, groups of customers, co-workers, general public or management/supervisors.
Mathematical Skills
Ability to perform and understand basic math calculations, including adding, subtracting, dividing, and multiplying whole and decimal numbers using a calculator and/or Excel spreadsheet.
