The City of Tomball is accepting applications for the position of Assistant Court Clerk. This position Supports the City’s municipal court functions, handling administrative, clerical, and accounting tasks. As an entry-level position, the role involves following established procedures, yet requires exercising discretion and judgment. While the incumbent operates within the governing framework of State statutes and City ordinances, they must interact tactfully and courteously with the public, police, attorneys, and other personnel.

Education and Experience – An equivalent combination of education, training and experience will be considered.
Education HS_GED /HS _diploma
Experience Minimum of 2 years previous relevant work experience is required in any of the following Office Admin Assistant, Customer Service, or Local
Government (Municipal Court)
Certifications Certified Court Clerk Level I certification required to be obtained within 2 years of hire date, Required to attend 12 hours a year of continuous
education through either TMCA, or TMCEC.
Licensing Driver’s License
Assistant Court Clerk’s role within the big picture of the City’s overall success.
Supports the City’s municipal court functions, handling administrative, clerical, and accounting tasks. As an entry-level position, the role involves following established procedures, yet requires exercising discretion and judgment. While the incumbent operates within the governing framework of State statutes and City ordinances, they must interact tactfully and courteously with the public, police, attorneys, and other personnel.
Assistant Court Clerk functions include but are not limited to the following.
Citation Processing: Enter and process citations. Prepare case files and print required documents. Mail correspondence and input data into the computer system, ensuring accuracy. Process, sign, and stamp complaints. File and retrieve documents from the Police Department. Interact with Police Officers and Bailiffs to ensure citation accuracy.
Court Docketing: Prepare cases for court and ensure they are ready for hearings. Contact defendants to remind them of their court dates. Compose legal documents with attention to detail. Ensure organized and smooth courtroom proceedings by preparing all necessary materials.
Public Communication: Answer customer calls and handle in-person interactions. Process customer requests, including Defensive Driving, Deferred Dispositions, Compliance Dismissals, Motions, and Payment Plans. Examine legal documents for accuracy. Address inquiries from the public, judges, and lawyers.
Payment and Cash Collection: Collect court fees and fines. Process payments in person, online, or via mail. Deposit checks through an online portal. Reconcile the cash drawer daily and ensure accuracy. Create, file, and save daily reports for the Finance department.
Contribute to the team effort by performing other related duties as assigned.

Interpersonal skills to interact with diverse groups, including the public, police, attorneys, and other city personnel, with tact and professionalism.

The work is primarily performed indoors in a professional office or courtroom environment.
The setting is generally comfortable, though occasional variations in temperature, noise levels, or humidity may occur.

SALARY:
Hiring Range: $37,918 – $39,811 ($18.23 – $19.14)
Salary Range: $37,918 – $56,888
