Job Overview:
A reputable law firm located in San Francisco, CA, is seeking a skilled mid-level Associate to join its Patent Prosecution & Litigation Practice Group. The ideal candidate will bring 3 to 6 years of experience in patent prosecution, including expertise in drafting applications. A background in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, or a similar field is essential. Knowledge of additional intellectual property areas is a valuable asset.
Duties:
Draft, file, and prosecute patent applications.
Advise clients on patentability, infringement, and enforcement strategies.
Prepare and file responses to office actions and other communications with the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).
Handle patent-related litigation support and analysis.
Maintain a robust docket of ongoing patent matters and client projects.
Collaborate with internal teams and external clients to devise comprehensive intellectual property strategies.
Requirements:
Minimum of 3-6 years of experience in patent prosecution.
Must be registered with the USPTO.
Barred in California (active license required).
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Excellent organizational and analytical abilities.
Detail-oriented and able to manage complex legal and technical matters.
Education:
A degree in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, or a closely related field is required.
Certifications:
Must be registered with the USPTO.
California State Bar membership is required.
Skills:
Strong technical writing and patent drafting skills.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Proficiency in patent prosecution procedures and USPTO filings.
In-depth knowledge of patent law, particularly related to mechanical or electrical engineering.
Experience with patent litigation is a plus.
Ability to communicate complex technical concepts effectively to clients and colleagues.
