About the Opportunity

We are seeking an experienced Merger Integration Controller to lead the financial integration of multiple transportation and logistics companies. This is a high-impact, project-based role reporting directly to ownership. The successful candidate will establish a unified financial structure, ensure accurate reporting, and help position the combined organization for future growth.

This position is ideal for a seasoned Controller, CPA, or finance executive with a proven track record of integrating businesses through mergers or acquisitions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the accounting and financial integration of multiple operating companies.
  • Consolidate financial statements and establish standardized reporting across all entities.
  • Review and reconcile balance sheet accounts, intercompany transactions, and historical accounting records.
  • Standardize the chart of accounts, accounting policies, and internal controls.
  • Develop accurate monthly financial statements and KPI reporting for ownership.
  • Coordinate with outside CPAs, tax advisors, lenders, and legal counsel throughout the merger process.
  • Evaluate and improve accounting workflows and recommend best practices.
  • Assist with accounting software and ERP integration, if necessary.
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP and applicable tax and regulatory requirements.
  • Create a scalable accounting structure capable of supporting future acquisitions and growth.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance required.
  • CPA designation strongly preferred.
  • Minimum of 10 years of progressive accounting and financial leadership experience.
  • Previous experience leading merger, acquisition, or multi-entity business integrations.
  • Experience in the transportation, trucking, logistics, or related industries is highly preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of financial reporting, internal controls, and multi-company accounting.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills and proficiency with QuickBooks or comparable accounting/ERP systems.
  • Exceptional analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently, prioritize multiple projects, and deliver results in a fast-paced environment.

Compensation

  • Contract rate of $90–$120 per hour, depending on experience.
  • Flexible work schedule.
  • Potential performance and project completion bonus.
  • Opportunity for additional consulting work following the successful completion of the merger.
