SecurePOA – Legal/Compliance Advisor

Use Your Legal Skills to Open Doors, Protect Clients, and Build a Lasting Legacy

SecurePOA, in partnership with COCAS (Commission on Culture and Society), is breaking down barriers to justice, financial empowerment, and opportunity for those who need it most. We provide critical legal and financial services to survivors, returning citizens, and vulnerable community members.

We’re seeking a Legal/Compliance Advisor to ensure our work remains ethical, compliant, and on the cutting edge of nonprofit best practices.

Position: Legal/Compliance Advisor (Pro Bono/Part-Time)

Location: Remote/Flexible (U.S.-based, Georgia/California preferred, but open to all U.S. jurisdictions)

Compensation: $70,487 – $123,269 per year
This is a pro bono role. Your guidance will help shape our future, safeguard our clients, and directly support our mission. Future paid legal position will become available as funding grows.

What You’ll Do:

Review and advise on organizational policies, intake forms, waivers, and compliance documents to ensure we meet all legal, regulatory, and ethical standards.
Advise on state and federal requirements (including privacy, data security, financial, nonprofit, and Power of Attorney-related regulations).
Support our team in responding to legal questions or challenges from clients, partners, or stakeholders.
Help ensure our communications, outreach, and services comply with relevant laws—especially when working with justice-involved and vulnerable populations.
Stay informed of legislative and regulatory changes affecting our programs and recommend timely updates.
Assist with risk management, contract review, and staff training on compliance issues, as needed.
Optionally: Participate in Board meetings or strategic planning to ensure ongoing legal health.

Who You Are:

Licensed attorney (active or retired), JD, or legal professional with nonprofit, compliance, or regulatory experience.
Passionate about access to justice, equity, and service.
Experienced in nonprofit law, compliance, contracts, or privacy (experience with justice/reentry, victim advocacy, or Power of Attorney issues a plus).
Strong communicator—able to explain complex legal concepts clearly to non-lawyers.
Organized, detail-oriented, and ethical.
Committed to SecurePOA and COCAS’s mission and values.

Why Join Us?

Help build a safer, more just, and more accessible future for those who need it most.
Use your legal skills for meaningful, lasting impact.
Network with nonprofit leaders, advocates, and legal peers.
Flexible hours and remote-friendly service.
Opportunity for Board involvement, pro bono recognition, and strong professional references.
Option to transition to a paid legal counsel role as the organization grows.
