JOB SUMMARY

Develop and direct legal strategy for litigated claim files, including recognition of legal defenses and legal strategies. Assist the Vice President of Litigation with file reviews for case evaluation and recommendations for further handling.

Hybrid/Remote – must live within 60 miles of HCI Headquarters in Tampa, FL.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Follow and report on Florida legal trends
Conduct file reviews and audits to ensure quality handling, as well as litigation reserve reviews on all files
Suggest legal strategy to management and implement same
Liaison with litigation partners, including recommending to management the hiring, retention and oversight of external law firms
Execute appropriate strategies to bring claims to an early resolution
Confer with and direct assigned counsel to ensure litigated claims are handled appropriately

REQUIRED SKILLS & EXPERIENCE

Extensive knowledge and experience in first party property claims and litigation
Knowledge of the Florida legal process and an understanding of the Florida legal and legislative climate
Excellent writing skills
Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills
Experience with Microsoft Office products required (specifically Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook)
Strong verbal and written communication, as well as strong negotiation skills

EDUCATION & TRAINING

10 or more years of legal experience required
Juris Doctor from an accredited U.S. law school

LICENSES OR CERTIFICATIONS

5-20 or 6-20 Florida Adjusters license in good standing.
Member in good standing of the Florida Bar

HYBRID WORKING & COLLABORATION WEEKS

To foster HCIs commitment to creating a collaborative work environment, remote workers will be required to report to a central office location for one week every quarter for collaboration, team building, and educational exercises. Attendance during collaboration weeks is a vital component of our team culture, and therefore mandatory unless exceptions are approved through Human Resources. Additionally, employees may be asked to report to the office outside of collaboration weeks as project requirements, team meetings, or other organizational needs that necessitate in-person collaboration occur.
