A pre-litigation case manager in a legal setting, particularly in personal injury cases, handles the initial stages of a case, focusing on gathering information, communicating with clients and insurance companies, and preparing for potential litigation.
Key Responsibilities:
Client Communication:
Maintain regular contact with clients to provide updates, answer questions, and build rapport.
Educate clients about the legal process and their rights.
Manage client expectations and address concerns.
Case Management:
Open and manage client files and documents in case management software.
Request and organize medical records, police reports, and other relevant documentation.
Coordinate and calendar medical appointments.
Insurance Interaction:
Contact insurance companies to open claims and gather information.
Negotiate with insurance adjusters on behalf of the client.
Manage liens and settlements.
Legal Research and Preparation:
Conduct research on parties, witnesses, and potential liability.
Gather information and evidence to support the client’s case.
Prepare documents for demand letters and other legal proceedings.
Other Duties:
Assist with client interviews and gather witness statements.
Manage a high volume of cases.
Work closely with attorneys to ensure smooth case progression.
Skills and Qualifications:
Strong communication skills: Both written and verbal.
Excellent organizational skills: Ability to manage multiple cases and deadlines.
Attention to detail: Accuracy in documentation and record-keeping.
Proficiency in case management software: Familiarity with legal software and databases.
Knowledge of legal procedures: Understanding of the pre-litigation process.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team:
High school diploma required, with a 2-year degree or paralegal certification preferred, and a bachelor’s degree is even better.
