About the Company: Our client, an alternative business structure (ABS) law firm established by the CEO of a leading litigation finance firm, is looking for an experienced Litigation Paralegal to join their growing team. Our client leverages the ABS model to offer innovative legal services, particularly in mass tort and breach of contract litigation. This structure enables the firm to combine legal expertise with financial resources, providing comprehensive support to clients nationwide.
About the Role: The Litigation Paralegal will manage all of the details throughout every phase of our cases – from investigations to pleadings and discovery, dispositive motions, and hearing/trial preparation. The ideal candidate will be responsible for assisting attorneys in all stages of litigation matters, including pre-litigation file work-up. This candidate should feel comfortable conducting legal research, conducting background diligence, drafting substantive briefs, scheduling, maintaining electronic case files, contacting opposing parties or witnesses, and completing other ad-hoc requests, as needed.
The Litigation Paralegal works very closely with attorneys, assisting in depositions, witness preparation, and research. The paralegal is typically the one who prepares and handles all exhibits. They will also act as an assistant to the attorney during legal proceedings.
Responsibilities
Draft ready-to-file legal documents for review and use by attorneys, including substantive/dispositive motions and discovery requests and responses.
Monitor investments for material developments for clients, which primarily involves having an understanding of case dockets and the steps in litigation.
Categorize and interpret data; review and analyze reports, responses and records produced by clients or opposing counsel.
Coordinate requests between multiple parties involved in litigation by way of consistent communication with client, claims and full partnership with attorney through end of case.
Prepare, organize, and file documents and correspondence.
Manage case load for attorneys.
Conduct legal research.
Update and maintain internal databases.
Prepare witnesses and other materials for case preparation.
Organize relevant documents for attorney review and case preparation.
Prepare for and attend depositions and hearings.
Prepare and organize exhibits during depositions and hearings.
Prepare and file legal documents, including in trial courts, ADR proceedings, and appellate courts.
Calculate and calendar applicable deadlines.
Requirements
5+ years as a Civil Litigation Paralegal
ABA-approved paralegal certification with a focus on litigation
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Strong attention to detail
Resourceful research and analytical skills
Ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects and tasks
Proficient in Microsoft Office
Team player who is a self-starter and strives for excellence in their work product
Experience with Filevine, UCC law, bankruptcy law, collections law, real estate law strongly preferred
