Our client seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Litigation Law Clerk to join their dynamic Litigation Department. This role is ideal for a law clerk with experience in commercial litigation, creditors’ rights, and enforcement proceedings, who thrives in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.
You will play a key role supporting lawyers on complex matters from file intake through to trial and enforcement, with significant exposure to Commercial List and mortgage enforcement work.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in the drafting and preparation of litigation documents, including pleadings, motion materials, and affidavits (including affidavits of documents)
- Assist with mortgage enforcement proceedings, including demand letters, Notices of Sale, and materials under the Mortgages Act and the Bankruptcy and Insolvency Act
- Conduct title and real estate-related searches
- Assist with the preparation, filing, and service of court materials in accordance with Ontario procedural rules and deadlines
- Maintain and organize electronic and physical case files with a high degree of accuracy
- Assist with trial preparation, including coordinating briefs, exhibits, and witness materials
- Track litigation timelines and assist in ensuring deadlines are met
- Draft correspondence and communicate with clients, opposing counsel, and court staff
- Assist in the preparation of settlement documentation
- Support lawyers and collaborate with team members on complex litigation matters as required
Qualifications & Experience
- Graduate of an accredited Law Clerk program
- Minimum 5+ years of experience in commercial litigation
- Demonstrated experience with creditors’ rights and enforcement proceedings, mortgage enforcement / power of sale, receiverships and secured debt recovery, and exposure to the Commercial List and/or Estates List
- Strong knowledge of Ontario court rules, procedures, and filing requirements
- Hands-on experience preparing and managing complex litigation documentation
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook), Case Center, and document management systems such as iManage
- Excellent organizational, time management, and multitasking abilities
- Strong attention to detail and a high level of accuracy
- Effective communication skills and a client-service mindset
- Self-motivated, proactive, and able to work both independently and as part of a team
The expected salary range for this position is $80,000 – 120,000, depending on level of experience, region/location, and other factors.
