We are seeking an experienced legal professional to join United States Liability Insurance Company. As Counsel on the Legal & Compliance team, you will:

Provide advice, guidance and direction on legal and compliance matters related to data privacy and cybersecurity regulations. Act as a liaison between the Legal & Compliance Team and the Information Technology Team to proactively respond to a changing regulatory landscape on information storage and use. Create, update and maintain vendor contract database. Draft and negotiate vendor agreements to company specifications. Specific Duties and Responsibilities

Learn the property and casualty insurance business
Learn about our company, our culture and our business model
Thoroughly understand state and foreign data privacy and cybersecurity regulations. Advise and direct our response and compliance program in collaboration with the Information Technology Team and other appropriate business teams
Conduct data privacy impact assessments and other risk assessments related to data privacy
Assist in the development of data privacy training programs and managing incident response plans
Collaborate with third-party vendors and service providers to ensure that they comply with contractual obligations related to data privacy
Participate in continuing education and conferences regarding data privacy and cybersecurity
Create and maintain vendor contract database. Negotiate vendor agreements and relationships to the benefit of the company. Assist business teams in selecting and engaging vendors to facilitate their initiatives and maintain compliance
Provide general legal support to Legal & Compliance Team and community as needed with the potential for growth into a generalist legal role
Handle special projects and tasks as assigned
Be actionable and proactive in the handling of all matters
Maintain confidentiality and privacy in the handling of matters as appropriate

Preferred Qualifications:

Working knowledge of property and casualty insurance industry. Experience with data privacy and cybersecurity regulation and corporate compliance. Security/Privacy Certification (e.g., CIPP, CIPM, CIPT).

Education: Juris Doctorate (or equivalent) degree. Admitted to the bar in one state (minimum).

Experience: 3 -5 years’ experience in a corporate law/compliance department setting or law firm.

Working Conditions: 35 hours/week minimum with the willingness and ability to work additional hours as necessary.
