Role Description The Litigation Associate will handle a variety of contentious matters, including drafting pleadings and motions, preparing legal opinions, and managing case files from inception through resolution. Day-to-day responsibilities include conducting legal research, analyzing case law and statutes, preparing for and attending court hearings, and assisting with depositions and witness preparation. The role involves close collaboration with senior attorneys to develop litigation strategies, communicate with clients, and ensure that deadlines and procedural requirements are met. This is a full-time, on-site role based in Ibadan, requiring consistent presence in the office and courts within the jurisdiction. The Litigation Associate will also support business development efforts by contributing to thought leadership and maintaining professional relationships with clients and stakeholders.
Qualifications
- Strong foundational knowledge of Law, including commercial and civil litigation principles, and the ability to apply legal concepts to complex fact patterns.
- Proficiency in drafting Motions and other litigation documents, with attention to detail, clarity, and adherence to procedural rules.
- Advanced Research skills, including use of legal databases, case law analysis, and preparation of well-reasoned memoranda.
- Experience assisting with Depositions, including preparing outlines, reviewing transcripts, and coordinating with witnesses and counsel.
- Familiarity with Courts procedures and practices, including filing requirements, hearing preparations, and effective courtroom advocacy.
- Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) and Barrister-at-Law (B.L), with admission to practice law in Nigeria.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, strong analytical ability, and sound judgment in assessing risks and case strategy.
- Capacity to work collaboratively within a team, manage multiple matters simultaneously, and maintain high ethical and professional standards.
- Prior experience in a litigation-focused or commercial law firm environment is an advantage.
