Legal Site Supervisor Jobs in Los Angeles, CA at IST Management Services

Overview
Looking to hire a fully remote Estate Planning Contractor/Consultant (Attorney role) immediately!

Small Chicago-based law firm looking to expand and take on estate planning matters due to growing client demand. This would be a unique, highly part-time, no client contact, flexible, “work when you want, where you want” Consultant/Contractor/Outside Counsel role in which you’d be paid 20% of total earned fees on any estate planning matter you assist our firm with.

For example, if the firm earns $2,500 for a revocable living trust, you’re paid $500 if you assist us with the process – it doesn’t matter if you spend a few minutes helping us or an hour or two. The main requirement is that your assistance results in us successfully and competently handling the matter for our client.

There is no billable or minimum hours requirement for this role, it is fully remote, you don’t have to be on call, you can maintain your other job(s), etc. – just be available to respond to our estate planning inquiries and assist us with our questions and needs within 1, max 2, business days. Reliability, promptness, and helpfulness are what we are looking for and we are happy to pay 20% of our fees if it means we can take on estate planning matters confidently.

This is an excellent, highly part-time, and low-commitment way to use your estate planning expertise to make some extra money. The role is ideal for an experienced estates attorney looking to make some extra income, a part-time estates attorney looking for additional work, or someone looking to wind down their practice/retire but still make some (very easy) money using their experience. Some months, we may be working on multiple estate planning matters with your help (higher end-of-month pay due to more matters) while other months may be slower due to less estate planning work.

This same arrangement has worked well in another jurisdiction we are licensed in and earned our Consultant/Contractor/Outside Counsel thousands of dollars last year for no more than 10 hours of work total.

Duties

Respond to the firm within 24 hours of us reaching out about IL estate planning rules/laws/statutes/regulations generally, or about one of our client matters, specifically.
Provide guidance on the intricacies and formalities of IL estate planning; Wills, Trusts, and Deed drafting; and recording at the municipal/county level in Cook County and the collar counties (DuPage, Kane, Lake, Will, McHenry, etc.).
Provide templates if requested (for example, if we need a TODI or quitclaim deed, you’d provide one).
Review work product (upon request) with the necessary attention to detail to determine if any documents/requirements are missing, incomplete, contain omissions, or should be formatted differently or contain different language, etc.
Advise us (upon request) on what estate planning tools/instruments are best for our clients’ needs.
Guidance on how to handle an estate planning matter from beginning to end – both from an administrative standpoint (filing, recording, procedures, etc.) and from a substantive standpoint – regardless of whether it’s a revocable living trust, irrevocable trust, ILIT, special needs trust, etc.
No duty to interact with our clients or speak to them directly, but strict client confidentiality required when receiving/reviewing documents containing client information.

Skills

Have strong knowledge of Illinois estate planning and how to best protect client assets, ensure client wishes, and avoid probate.
Strong legal drafting and document review skills.
Strong attention to detail to detect any issues with our estate planning documents prior to recording or submitting to clients.
Ability to analyze complex information and provide clear recommendations.
Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, to effectively convey to us what we need to know.
Excellent attention to detail and ability to assist with multiple matters simultaneously.
Responsive and thorough when assistance is needed.

Requirements

Must be an IL-licensed attorney.
Should ideally live in Illinois (preference for Chicago/Cook County).
At least 4 or more years of estate planning experience – everything from simple wills, to powers of attorney, to simple RLTs, to more complex trusts and estate planning instruments.
Extensive drafting experience for everything from simple to complex estates and lower-net-worth to higher-net-worth individuals.
Highly knowledgeable about how to protect client assets, if possible, from creditors, judgments, taxes, etc.
Highly knowledgeable about recording and procedural requirements for IL and Cook County/collar counties.
Ability to incorporate and work with a variety of assets in an estate planning context including homes, vehicles, jewelry, land, businesses, etc.
Experience with probate is a plus, and you’ll have the option to handle the firm’s probate cases if they arise with a very generous split.
Licensure in Indiana, Wisconsin, or Minnesota with relevant estate planning experience is a plus.
The ability to be patient, clear, highly responsive, and highly helpful is a must to help us navigate this field of law as there will be many questions asked!
Must be comfortable working fully remotely and communicating primarily by email and phone and sometimes by Zoom.

Please apply with a Resume and Letter (not a cover letter, max. 1 page). The Letter should give us a more well-rounded view of your estate planning experience and highlight the diversity and breadth of your experience in a way that your Resume may not.

Thank you!
