Legal Secretary / Paralegal
Based in Sandton
R15 000 – R20 000 CTC
POSITION INFO:
Minimum requirements: Paralegal qualification or relevant legal qualification. Minimum of 2 years’ experience in motor vehicle insurance litigation. Experience acting for insurers in third-party liability, recovery, and property damage claims. Sound knowledge of the Magistrates’ Courts Rules and Uniform Rules of Court. Experience with litigation case management systems. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite. Excellent drafting, organisational, and communication skills. Ability to work under pressure and manage strict deadlines. Valid driver’s licence will be advantageous. Key Responsibilities Manage insurance litigation files from instruction to finalisation. Draft legal correspondence, pleadings, notices, affidavits, and other litigation documents. Liaise with clients, insurers, brokers, experts, assessors, attorneys, advocates, sheriffs, and court officials. Obtain and analyse accident reports, witness statements, repair quotations, assessor reports, and insurance documentation. Prepare trial bundles and briefing files for counsel. Arrange consultations with witnesses and experts. Monitor court dates, filing deadlines, and prescription periods. Attend to issuing, filing, and service of court documents. Prepare instructions to correspondents and sheriffs. Maintain accurate file notes and update clients on matter progress. Assist attorneys with recoveries, subrogated claims, repudiations, and settlement negotiations. Attend taxation, pre-trial conferences, and court where required. Ensure compliance with client reporting requirements and service level agreements. Assist with monthly reporting, billing, recoveries, and file audits. Knowledge and Experience The successful candidate should have experience in: Third-party motor vehicle accident claims. Subrogated recovery actions. Property damage litigation. Material damage claims. Liability investigations. Settlement negotiations. Discovery procedures. Trial preparation. Court filing procedures. Prescription Act requirements.
