Overview

Legal Secretary/Paralegal Jobs in West Harrison, NY at Stieglitz & Welch PLLC

About Our Firm

Our office is a small (ten attorneys) law firm handling mostly court appointed criminal defense and juvenile dependency (child abuse and neglect) cases. The culture of our office is very informal with great flexibility in hours. Our office is located within walking distance of all Washington County Courthouse buildings and the jail.

We provide trial level representation of court appointed clients in Misdemeanor, Class C Felony, Probation Violation, Contempt of Court, and Juvenile Dependency (child abuse and neglect) cases. Our juvenile dependency practice involves representing both parents and children. Our caseload involves a lot of client communication and court time. Visiting clients in jail and visiting children we represent in their homes (and foster homes), is necessary.

Our retained (commission earning – pay in addition to the salary provided) work is primarily performing expungements and general family law. Our expungement practice has grown exponentially, and we have been turning away family law cases.

Our firm’s website is www.myfamilyfirm.com.

Attorney Position Available

We are looking for an attorney to eventually handle all the case types referenced above. No prior experience is necessary, although experience in criminal and/or juvenile law is certainly a plus. Before we begin assigning new cases to you, we will have you train with our attorneys and eventually begin handling court appearances with the supervision of one of our attorneys present. We will work with you to determine when to begin assigning cases directly to you.

Compensation

Salary, Flex, Commission, and Incentive

We pay a salary plus what we call a ‘flex’ amount to take our court appointed cases. The amount differs depending on your qualifications (the more types of cases you can take, the greater the pay). The range for the salary plus ‘flex’ is $8,633.34 a month (this comes to 103,600.08 a year) up to $9,300 a month (this comes to $111,600 a year). We also have additional incentive pay for taking Termination of Parental Rights court appointed cases (extra pay for those taking these more complex Juvenile Dependency cases).

In addition to the salary, ‘flex’, and incentive pay we also pay a 50% commission for fees earned and received on our non-court appointed cases (retained cases). The firm actively advertises to attract clients for expungements and distributes those extra income generating clients evenly to all attorneys wishing to take those cases. Although we no longer advertise to attract family law cases, we still receive family law referrals and currently turn most away as only two of our current attorneys wish to take those cases.

We cover all costs for PLF, CLEs, and OSB dues.
