Role Description:

We are looking for an experienced Legal Secretary to provide direct support to a busy litigation attorney. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing files from inception to finalisation, preparing and formatting legal documents, pleadings, correspondence and letters, compiling court bundles, and ensuring that all documents are properly filed both electronically and on the relevant office files.

The role includes liaising with clients, counsel, sheriffs, correspondents, the Registrar and other court officials, arranging the service and filing of legal documents, managing the attorney’s diary and deadlines, preparing files for consultations and court, attending to general litigation administration, and ensuring the smooth day-to-day running of the attorney’s practice.

Minimum Qualifications and Requirements

* Minimum 2–5 years’ experience as a Legal Secretary in a law firm (non-negotiable).

* Proven working knowledge of Court Online and CaseLines (non-negotiable).

* Experience in High Court litigation and court procedures.

* Ability to manage multiple files and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

* Experience in urgent applications and the ability to work efficiently under pressure.

* Willingness to work after hours when required to meet urgent court deadlines.

* Excellent document formatting skills, including pleadings, affidavits, notices, court bundles and legal correspondence.

* Strong organisational and file management skills with exceptional attention to detail.

* Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and take initiative where required.

* Excellent verbal and written communication skills in both Afrikaans and English (non-negotiable).

* Ability to liaise professionally with clients, counsel, sheriffs, correspondents, the Registrar and court officials.

* Experience in preparing, indexing, paginating and maintaining both physical and electronic litigation files.

* Computer literate with a good working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Outlook and Adobe Acrobat.

* Positive attitude, reliable, trustworthy and professional.

* Excellent time management skills with the ability to prioritise competing deadlines.

* Own reliable transport and a valid driver’s licence will be advantageous.
