The Senior Manager of Legal Recruiting is responsible for leading, developing, and driving legal practitioner (attorney, technology specialist, and scientific advisor) hiring strategies and processes and ensuring the identification, recruitment, and successful onboarding of high-quality talent. This role will play a key role in fostering relationships with internal and external stakeholders and managing legal recruiting related programming, including but not limited to the technology specialist program, summer program, fellowship program and the hiring of legal interns. This position will work closely with all members of the Legal Recruiting & Professional Development team, as well as the Firm’s Hiring Chair.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Programming and Procedures
Work closely with key management members and participate in efforts to develop and shape long-term recruiting strategies and program structures. Initiate conversations and planning efforts with practice group leaders to identify and assess pipeline gaps and summer hiring needs. Lead and facilitate hiring planning meetings with practice groups.
Plan and direct the Firm’s summer program from start to finish. This includes onboarding, work assignments, coordinating feedback and evaluation process, planning and implementing all social events and other related programs. As the program champion, proactively encourage participation and involvement across the Firm to create the best summer associate/intern experience possible.
Build and strengthen relationships with law school career service professionals and law student groups, determine other potential relationships that can be developed. Oversee communications and engagement, manage outreach efforts.
Implement best practices in recruiting, interviewing, hiring and offer processes. Proactively recommend improvements to policies and processes and all forms of documentation, such as offer letters.
Prepare, manage and track recruitment related expenses to the annual budget. Be accountable to manage department costs, event expenditures, search firm costs and law school program costs. Exercise exceptional strategic judgment and due diligence for all recruitment expenditures while ensuring the best programming possible.
Manage all legal recruitment memberships and renewals for pertinent law firm groups such as NALP.
Work closely with the Professional Development team on orientation, onboarding, and other related efforts. Effectively collaborate with other departments, as needed, to implement legal recruiting, programming and processes.
Manage all pertinent data related to legal recruiting such as retention, turnover and other statistical data related to hiring. Act as primary contact for reporting and hiring analysis. Participate in a variety of regional and national legal surveys and certifications and take the lead to ensure timely completion.
Conducts market research on hiring trends and consistently determines new sources for hiring from vetting new agencies to new job posting sites. Maintains pertinent knowledge of any legal hiring trends, for both entry level and lateral law firm hiring.
Work with the Hiring Chair and Senior Director of LRPD to define processes, procedures and create sound strategies as they relate to legal hiring. Regularly assess systems based on feedback and/or market trends and implement improvements as necessary to ensure all hiring efforts are well organized, timely and professional.
Develops and manages search firm and agency relationships. Maintains up-to-date list of contacts as well as strategically posting to applicable websites and organizations to ensure a wide range of candidate search options and results.
Recruiting and Interviewing
Manage all aspects of legal practitioner and summer associate/intern hiring efforts, and partner with Practice Group Leaders and other pertinent firm leaders on all other hiring efforts. Lead process from start to post position fill, including conducting pre-hiring interviews and meetings, establishing interview focus questions, conducting background and conflict checks and maintaining post offer contact.
Actively provides coaching and mentoring for internal interviewers to ensure that the interview process is optimized on candidate information gathering at the highest level to influence business decisions.
Ensure all hiring information is disseminated to all relevant departments such as Client Services, Professional Development, Human Resources, and Finance.Timely relay information changes, such as salary changes or billable hour changes for newly hired legal practitioners and summer associates/interns.
Contribute strategically and creatively to identify and explore unique hiring channels beyond what is traditional for the Firm. Strong ability to source candidates from various channels and possess knowledge about tools such as media sources, professional organizations, job boards to generate qualified candidate pools.
Apply strong communication and information sharing capabilities with relevant parties in a timely manner to create an expeditious experience for internal and external contacts.
Serve as the “face of the Firm” and create a positive experience for both internal and external clients from the initial contact through offer acceptance and ensure that all information is collected and provided to the Professional Development team for onboarding.
Work with other members of the recruiting team to ensure interviews are coordinated in an organized and professional manner, including providing pertinent candidate information to internal interviewers with appropriate advance timing.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor’s degree or minimum of six years of work experience in the field of legal recruiting in a law firm or corporate legal department setting, or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
Previous management experience in a team-oriented workplace preferred. Ability to manage relationships, motivate and lead people.
Strong understanding of the legal recruiting process, OCI, lateral hiring and partner recruitment.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to interact with candidates, legal practitioners, and firm leadership effectively.
Proven success in attorney and technology specialist recruiting and strategic growth planning and development.
Experience working with search firms, law schools, and internship programs.
Exceptional oral and written communication skills and the ability to effectively communicate workflow and project updates.
Strong time management, prioritization, problem-solving, and organizational skills and the ability to work effectively in a high-pressure environment.
Flexibility and capacity to respond calmly, efficiently, and effectively in stressful situations.
Exercises excellent judgment and maintain confidentiality of matters and other firm business information.
Technical skills in applicant tracking systems and online job board platforms.
Proficiency with recruiting software and other relevant technologies and tools. Proficiency and experience with social media outlets such as LinkedIn preferred.
Highly proficient in Outlook, Word, and Excel as well as strong computer/database management skills.

The expected salary range for this position is $175,000-$190,000 annually. Actual pay will be determined based on experience and other job-related factors permitted by law. Any offer of employment is subject to the successful completion of a background check (and reference check).
