Company Description The Federal Law and Justice Institute is a national institution reorganized under Proclamation No. 1369/2025 (2017 E.C.) to strengthen and support the country’s justice sector bodies. It brings together the mandates of the former Justice and Legal System Research Institute and the Federal Justice Bodies Professionals Training Center into a single, integrated entity. The Institute is focused on enhancing execution capacity across the justice sector through research, professional training, and system development. It also assumes new, complementary functions that improve the effectiveness and responsiveness of justice institutions. All activities are aligned with the country’s growth priorities and current legal and social realities.
Role Description The Legal Research Assistant is a full-time, on-site role based in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. This role supports legal research projects by gathering and analyzing primary and secondary legal materials, including legislation, case law, policy documents, and academic writings. The Legal Research Assistant assists in drafting and preparing legal documents, reports, briefs, and training materials under the guidance of senior legal professionals. Daily tasks include organizing research findings, maintaining databases and document repositories, and preparing summaries and presentations for internal and external stakeholders. The role also involves collaborating with colleagues across departments, participating in workshops or consultations, and contributing to initiatives that strengthen justice sector capacity.
Qualifications

  • Strong foundation in Law with knowledge of constitutional, administrative, and criminal justice systems.
  • Proficiency in Research and Analytical Skills for collecting, evaluating, and synthesizing legal and policy information.
  • Ability in Legal Document Preparation, including drafting memoranda, reports, and structured legal analyses.
  • Effective Communication skills, both written and verbal, for collaboration, reporting, and presentation of findings.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Law (LL.B) or a closely related field; postgraduate studies are an advantage.
  • Attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and ability to manage multiple assignments and deadlines.
  • Proficiency in relevant software tools (e.g., word processing, legal databases, and document management systems).
  • Working knowledge of Ethiopia’s legal framework and justice sector institutions; prior experience in legal research or justice-related projects is beneficial.
