High School diploma or equivalent, with some business/clerical training, including computers.

Position Description Non-Exempt
OVERALL OBJECTIVE OF JOB
Provide assistance to the Central Court Coordinator in managing weekly criminal cases scheduled for preliminary hearings and to assist in documenting and recording the disposition of cases and distributing information about the outcomes to Criminal Justice stakeholders.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF JOB
1. Creates and maintains case files.
2. Prepares hearing sheets, hearing notices and continuance notices.
3. Assists Magisterial District Judges and the Central Court Coordinator in Central Court, i.e., logging outcome of cases, assisting with arraignments, guilty pleas, release orders, etc.
4. Utilizes computer for case processing and data entry.
5. Proofreads preliminary hearing disposition list for Central Court Coordinator.
6. Answers telephone and responds to routine questions or directs callers to proper individual.
7. Opens, sorts and distributes mail for Central Court.
8. Maintains files and other pertinent lists and documents, as needed, within Central Court.
9. Operates computer programs, web-based platforms, and other office equipment, daily.
10. Interacts with other County offices and departments and the local police departments, as necessary, to perform essential duties.
11. Utilizes Magisterial District Judge System daily.
OTHER DUTIES OF JOB
1. Attends meetings, training and seminars, as required.
2. Performs other job-related duties, as required.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED
Receives daily supervision and instruction from the most senior tenured Magisterial District Judge in Franklin County of the 39th Judicial District, and instruction from other Magisterial District Judges, and instruction from the Central Court Coordinator in regard to performing daily work duties. As a court supervised employee, the ultimate supervisor for the employee will be the President Judge, who is responsible for all hiring, firing, and supervision decisions in the Judicial District.
SUPERVISION GIVEN
Position given little or no supervision.
WORKING CONDITIONS
1. Works indoors in limited office space, with adequate lighting, temperatures, but subject to fluctuations in ventilation.
2. Frequent exposure to noise, disruptions and stress.
3. Below normal indoor exposure to dust/dirt.
4. Travels occasionally when needed to perform essential functions of job.
PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS
1. Must possess ability to record, convey and present information, explain procedures and follow instructions.
2. Must be able to sit for long periods throughout the work day with intermittent periods of standing/walking and occasional bending, twisting, stooping, reaching and grasping as necessary to carry out essential job duties.
3. Dexterity requirements range from coordinated movements of fingers/hands; to simple movements of feet/legs/torso as necessary to carry out essential job duties.
4. Sedentary work, with occasional lifting/carrying of objects with a maximum weight of ten pounds.
5. Must be able to cope with the physical and mental stress of the position.
6. Must be able to pay close attention to details and concentrate on work.
QUALIFICATIONS
1. EDUCATION/TRAINING
High School diploma or equivalent, with some business/clerical training, including
computers.
2. WORK EXPEPIENCE
1-2 years working experience in the business/administrative field.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
1. Must be able to speak and understand the English language and to follow oral and written instructions.
2. Must possess effective oral and written communication skills.
3. Must possess ability to function independently, have flexibility and personal integrity and the ability to work effectively with clients, co-workers and others.
4. Must possess the ability to maintain confidentiality in regard to client information and records.
5. Must possess technical knowledge of operating personal computers and other office equipment.
6. Some knowledge preferred, but not required, of legal principles in relation to individual cases or problems in criminal court.
7. Must be able to express ideas clearly and concisely both orally and in writing.
8. Must possess knowledge of general office practices and procedures.
