Overview
Washington Legal Foundation (WLF) is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented professional to own and operate its legal studies content engine. This role sits at the center of WLF’s thought leadership efforts, working closely with legal leadership to translate substantive legal insights into a clear, consistent, and forward-looking stream of content across written and live formats.
WLF is the nation’s premier public-interest law firm and policy center. For nearly 50 years, our mission has been to preserve and defend America’s free-enterprise system, individual rights, limited government, and the rule of law. WLF is both a law firm (Litigation Division) and a legal think tank (Legal Studies Division).
The Legal Policy Counsel will work in the Legal Studies Division, reporting to the Vice President of Legal Studies. The Legal Policy Counsel will work out of WLF’s Washington, DC headquarters in the Dupont Circle/Embassy Row neighborhood. WLF’s hybrid telework policy permits full-time attorneys to work from home one day each week.
Key Responsibilities
Legal Content Engine Ownership
• Own the end-to-end execution of WLF’s publications pipeline, ensuring a consistent cadence of high-quality output from external author recruitment to editorial oversight
• Identify emerging legal and regulatory developments and proactively surface ideas for new content
Author & Contributor Management
• Manage relationships with WLF’s network of authors and contributors
• Identify, recruit, and onboard new voices aligned with WLF’s priorities
• Serve as a key point of contact for contributors, guiding them through the publication process
Programming & Content Extensions (Webinars & Events)
• Aid in development and execution of WLF’s webinar programming as an extension of its legal content strategy
• Identify topics, structure discussions, and coordinate internal and external speakers
• Moderate webinars as appropriate and prepare leadership for participation in select, high-impact sessions
Distribution & Audience Growth
• Manage WLF’s website, blog, and content platforms
• Coordinate distribution of publications across email, social media, and partner channels
Professional Qualifications
• J.D. required
• 4+ years of relevant experience in legal writing, editing, publishing, or a related role
• Exceptional writing, editing, and verbal communication skills
• Strong project management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines
• Self-starter with the ability to take ownership and operate independently

High-performing candidates will have the opportunity to take on increasing responsibility over time, including expanded ownership of WLF’s content strategy, author network, and legal programming. The position offers a clear pathway into senior leadership roles within Legal Studies.
Compensation
The projected salary range for this role is $150,000-175,000, contingent on the specific skills and experience of the selected candidate. We are also willing to explore higher compensation for an exceptional candidate or a lower range for a promising, less experienced candidate.
