LEGAL OFFICER
Colombo, Sri Lanka /Full Time/ Permanent
Browns Plantations is looking for a qualified and motivated Legal Officer to join our Group Legal Department.
The successful candidate will play a key role in providing legal support across the organization, ensuring compliance with statutory requirements, managing legal documentation, and safeguarding the company's interests in a dynamic business environment spanning Sri Lanka and Kenya.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Handle notarial work, deed drafting, and related legal documentation
- Manage conveyancing matters and liaise with Land Registries and relevant authorities.
- Draft, review, and negotiate commercial agreements, MOUs, leases sub-leases.
- Provide legal support on progerty transactions and land-related matters.
- Ensure compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and statutory requirements
- Liaise with government institutions, regulatory bodies, and external legal counsel.
- Assist in legal research, risk assessment, and contract administration.
- Maintain legal records and support the Group Legal Department in day-to-day operations
REQUIREMENTS
- Attorney-at-Law enrolled in the Supreme Court of Sri Lanka.
- Notary Public licensed to practice in both Sinhala and English within the Colombo District.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in deed practice, conveyancing, and notarial work.
- Sound knowledge of land law, property law, and land registration procedures.
- Proven experience in drafting and reviewing commercial agreements and legal documents.
- Strong analytical, negotiation, and communication skills.
- Excellent command of both Sinhala and English
- Experience in a corporate legal environment will be an added advantage
