POSITION SUMMARY

Are you an experienced registered nurse ready to transition away from bedside care while continuing to use your clinical knowledge?

We are seeking a Nurse Consultant Paralegal to join our growing legal team. This position offers an exciting opportunity for an experienced registered nurse to apply clinical expertise, medical knowledge, critical thinking, and research skills to complex legal matters.

The Nurse Consultant Paralegal will assist attorneys with the evaluation and defense of medical malpractice, general liability, Department of Health, external peer review, and fair hearing matters. The ideal candidate is analytical, organized, resourceful, and able to translate complex medical information into clear and useful legal work product.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Review, analyze, and interpret medical records, medical literature, and clinical documentation
  • Prepare detailed medical chronologies, narrative summaries, timelines, and focused medical tables
  • Assist attorneys with the evaluation and defense of medical malpractice and general liability matters
  • Support Department of Health proceedings, external peer reviews, and fair hearing matters
  • Identify relevant medical issues, potential standards of care, causation concerns, and areas requiring additional investigation
  • Conduct medical literature research and identify authoritative clinical resources
  • Assist with identifying, evaluating, and retaining qualified medical experts
  • Coordinate and participate in expert, attorney, and client conferences by telephone or in person
  • Prepare clear summaries of expert consultations, client meetings, and medical conferences
  • Organize medical evidence and assist with deposition, mediation, hearing, and trial preparation
  • Communicate professionally with attorneys, clients, experts, health care providers, vendors, and other parties
  • Maintain accurate and organized electronic and physical case files
  • Manage multiple assignments while meeting strict deadlines
  • Protect confidential, privileged, and sensitive medical information
  • Support evolving Firm procedures and initiatives as the practice continues to expand

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Active and unrestricted Registered Nurse license
  • Strong understanding of anatomy, physiology, medical treatment, clinical terminology, and disease processes
  • Demonstrated ability to interpret complex medical records and medical literature
  • Excellent writing, editing, and analytical skills
  • Strong organizational and time management abilities
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines
  • Exceptional attention to detail and commitment to accuracy
  • Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with attorneys and other team members
  • Professional judgment and discretion when handling confidential information

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Five or more years of clinical nursing experience
  • Legal Nurse Consultant certification
  • Previous legal nurse consulting or litigation support experience
  • Successful completion of an academic Legal Nurse Consultant program
  • Experience preparing medical chronologies, summaries, and case evaluations
  • Established network of medical professionals, experts, and clinical resources
