About the Role
We are looking for an experienced Legal Manager to manage the legal, regulatory, contractual and compliance requirements of Appkhichadi and Inly.
The role is suited for a legal professional who has worked with technology, fintech, data, digital advertising, SaaS, mobile applications or internet-based businesses in India. The candidate will work closely with the founders, business, technology, finance, product, HR and external legal advisors.
This is a hands-on role requiring strong commercial judgement, attention to detail and the ability to translate legal requirements into practical business processes.
Key Responsibilities
- Draft, review and negotiate commercial agreements, including:
- Client and vendor agreements
- API integration agreements
- SaaS and technology agreements
- Data-sharing and data-processing agreements
- Publisher, affiliate and advertising agreements
- Partnership and business collaboration agreements
- NDAs, MOUs, service agreements and statements of work
- Manage legal requirements for Appkhichadi’s data, advertising, API and technology businesses.
- Advise product and engineering teams on privacy, consent, data collection, data usage, retention and sharing.
- Support compliance with applicable Indian laws, including:
- Digital Personal Data Protection Act and related rules
- Information Technology Act and applicable intermediary guidelines
- Consumer protection and e-commerce regulations
- Companies Act and corporate governance requirements
- Advertising, marketing and promotional communication regulations
- Review mobile application flows, privacy policies, terms of use, consent screens, disclaimers and customer communications.
- Identify legal and regulatory risks associated with new products, integrations, partnerships and revenue models.
- Manage company secretarial and corporate compliance activities in coordination with the Company Secretary, Chartered Accountant and external consultants.
- Support board meetings, resolutions, statutory filings, shareholder documentation and regulatory submissions.
- Handle employment-related legal matters, including offer letters, employment agreements, consultant agreements, confidentiality clauses, intellectual property clauses and employee exits.
- Manage intellectual property matters, including trademarks, copyrights, brand protection, software ownership and licensing.
- Maintain a central repository of contracts, registrations, licences, notices and compliance documents.
- Track contract renewals, obligations, liabilities, indemnities and termination requirements.
- Support fundraising, investments, due diligence, shareholder agreements and investor documentation.
- Coordinate with external lawyers, regulatory consultants, government authorities and law-enforcement agencies wherever required.
- Handle legal notices, customer disputes, vendor disputes and pre-litigation matters.
- Develop internal legal policies, contract templates, approval processes and compliance checklists.
- Conduct legal and compliance awareness sessions for internal teams.
Required Experience and Qualifications
- LL.B. from a recognised Indian university.
- 6–7 years of relevant legal experience.
- Prior experience in a law firm, technology company, fintech, SaaS, AdTech, MarTech, data company, NBFC, digital platform or startup.
- Strong experience in commercial contracts and corporate legal matters.
- Practical understanding of Indian privacy, technology and data-protection laws.
- Experience handling contracts involving data sharing, APIs, software, digital advertising or technology services.
- Ability to independently draft, negotiate and close commercial agreements.
- Strong legal research, documentation and risk-assessment skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work directly with founders and senior management.
- Strong ownership, confidentiality and professional judgement.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working with fintech or personal-finance applications.
- Exposure to RBI-regulated entities, NBFCs, lenders, payment companies or financial-service partners.
- Experience with digital advertising, affiliate marketing, user-data platforms or API businesses.
- Familiarity with GDPR, ISO 27001, information-security agreements and cross-border data contracts.
- Experience supporting fundraising, investment transactions or startup due diligence.
- Company Secretary qualification or prior exposure to secretarial compliance will be an advantage.
