About the Role
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a dynamic, result-oriented, highly motivated, and committed Legal Manager with a positive attitude to join the leadership team. The incumbent will be responsible for overseeing all legal affairs, contract management, regulatory liaison, and litigation support, with a strong focus on protecting the organization’s legal and commercial interests across commercial, industrial, and government-sector projects.
Responsibilities
- Draft, review, and provide strategic legal advice on agreements, deeds, project tenders, contracts, and other legal instruments related to the company’s ongoing commercial and government project operations.
- Maintain a robust contract management system, track the status of all existing contracts, flag upcoming expirations, and coordinate with internal departments for timely renewals.
- Prepare comprehensive case briefs, contract summaries, summaries of depositions, and related legal documentation.
- Communicate, liaise, and negotiate effectively with external stakeholders, including government entities, public authorities, regulatory bodies, and external legal counsel.
- Prepare and file various legal documents such as appeals, motions, pleadings, and petitions as required.
- Ensure timely follow-up with internal teams and external stakeholders to meet crucial legal deadlines, contractual obligations, and statutory compliance requirements.
- Represent the organization on all legal matters and consistently provide sound legal counsel in the best interest of the company.
Requirements
- Professional Status: Attorney-at-Law and Notary Public, licensed to practice in Sri Lanka.
- Experience: Minimum of 5 years of post-qualification experience in instructing attorney work, conveyancing, company secretarial duties, and corporate legal practices.
- Specialized Exposure: Demonstrated exposure to or experience in handling/managing legal frameworks, contracts, regulatory compliances, and disputes related to government, public sector, or large-scale infrastructure projects.
- Knowledge: Strong technical knowledge and deep understanding of corporate law, commercial legal procedures, and statutory compliance.
- Communication: Exceptional communication and drafting skills in English, both written and spoken.
