Overview:
This position supports the C&S legal team and business leaders. Key responsibilities include project management, legal research and support for state fair administrative hearings (state fair hearings). This role may also provide secondary support for the business in responding to requests for proposals (RFP) issued by states to serve as a Medicaid managed care organization in the state. Will include other project-based work to support the broader team. Solid organizational and project management skills are essential.

Primary Responsibilities:
State Fair Hearing Support: Coordinate and assist with the preparation for state fair hearings. This includes partnering with the business to coordinate and staff requests for hearings, preparing evidence packets, coordinating witness preparation, and appearing at the fair hearing
Legal Research: Gather background information, research laws and regulations on specific issues, and prepare summaries with initial analysis for the attorney
Project Coordination/Management: Coordinate projects within the team and with other departments. Organize, manage communication, and track progress on assigned projects
Request for Proposals (RFPs) Support as Needed: UnitedHealthcare C&S bids on contracts nationwide to serve as the managed care organization for various state Medicaid agencies. This role involves reviewing RFPs in collaboration with the proposal team, the legal team and other business partners. Identify legal questions/issues, work to develop standard responses in collaboration with attorneys, draft unique responses, adhere to proposal timelines and checklists, and draft legal summaries with the attorney’s assistance
Team Collaboration: Work as part of a team of three paralegals. Each paralegal has primary assignments, but flexibility is required to shift work as needed for priority projects. Manage multiple projects, train others as needed, and willingly take on work from others to ensure team success and a supportive work environment for all
Contracts/Agreements: Review contracts to identify legal and business risks. Work closely with the appropriate business client and assigned attorney

Required Qualifications:
3+ years working in legal or regulatory position
Project management experience
Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
Demonstrated ability to deal with multiple priorities and deadlines
Demonstrated ability to work well with others, but manage an independent workload
Proven solid organizational skills and ability to coordinate projects
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience working with contracts, such as contract review, drafting and negotiating
Proven excellent communication skills – written and verbal
Experience with serving external and internal clients/customers, with a positive customer service attitude.
Proven detail oriented, including ability to review presentations, letters, contracts, training materials, etc., spotting legal issues, ensuring clarity/accuracy of description
Proven solid analytical, problem solving and organizational skills
Proven self-starter and independent thinker who knows when to seek guidance
Demonstrated research skills with a variety of vehicles – intranet, internet, Lexis Nexis, networking, etc.
Demonstrated ability to work within a team, sharing work and assignments as needed to ensure priority projects are handled within the appropriate timeframe
Additional Qualities Preferred:
Experience in the healthcare industry, managed care industry or a federal or state government health care program
Experience with state fair hearing support
Experience with RFP work
Trial or administrative hearing support experience
Experience working in a matrixed environment

The salary range for this role is $71,600 to $140,600 annually based on full-time employment. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. UnitedHealth Group complies with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
