Key Responsibilities:
- Licensing & Regulatory Leadership
- Lead all insurance licensing applications and ongoing compliance for the organization and its intermediaries.
- Serve as the primary liaison with the Insurance Authority (IA) and other regulators.
- Provide strategic advice on regulatory developments and ensure timely implementation to support business growth.
- Agency & Distribution Legal Support
- Oversee legal matters relating to the agency force, including commission structures, agency agreements, conduct issues, and disciplinary proceedings.
- Support new distribution channels and partnership arrangements to facilitate business expansion.
- Commercial & Business Advisory
- Draft, review, and negotiate commercial agreements, including distribution agreements, service contracts, and reinsurance treaties.
- Deliver practical, business-oriented legal advice on new product initiatives, digital projects, and cross-border developments.
- Advise on corporate governance and support board and committee meetings.
- Team & Compliance Leadership
- Lead and develop a small legal team while working closely with the compliance function on AML/CTF and other regulatory requirements.
- Manage regulatory inspections, audits, and inquiries effectively.
Qualifications & Experience:
- LLB or equivalent; qualified lawyer with a current practicing certificate in Hong Kong or a recognized common law jurisdiction.
- Minimum 10–15 years post-qualification experience (PQE), with strong insurance regulatory and commercial legal background.
- Life insurance experience is preferred. Candidates with solid experience in General Insurance (GI) or Reinsurance will also be considered.
- Proven track record in handling licensing applications and direct engagement with the Insurance Authority (IA) is essential.
- All-rounded senior legal professional who can partner effectively with business teams to support commercial objectives and expansion.
- Previous in-house experience in insurance is highly preferred; candidates from top-tier law firms with deep insurance/regulatory practices will be considered.
- Stable career history with excellent command of written and spoken English and Chinese (Cantonese & Mandarin).
- Strong leadership, negotiation, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
