About the Role:
We are looking for a highly skilled Legal & Regulatory Counsel to join our dynamic legal team. This mid-senior level role requires 9-12 years of experience, primarily in the Fintech sector, with a strong focus on the Payments domain. The ideal candidate should also have experience in one or more of the following sectors: digital lending, cards, insurance, and investments.
The role involves a mix of contract drafting, regulatory compliance, legal advisory, risk assessment, and stakeholder management. The candidate will be responsible for reviewing, negotiating, and drafting contracts, ensuring regulatory compliance, providing strategic legal insights, and mentoring junior team members.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Contract Drafting, Negotiation & Management
• Draft, review, and negotiate a variety of contracts, including:
o Payments-related agreements (e.g., Payment Aggregator Services, PPI Distribution, UPI, Bill Payment, Merchant Agreements).
o Financial services distribution contracts (e.g., Insurance Distribution, Escrow Arrangements).
o Allied contracts (e.g., Marketing Agreements, Service Level Agreements (SLAs), Technology Contracts).
• Engage in contract negotiations with large multinational banks, insurance companies, technology service providers, and other key partners.
• Assist in developing contracting standards aligned with company policies, regulatory requirements, and industry best practices.
• Maintain a contract tracker, ensuring proper execution, documentation, and filing of agreements.
2. Regulatory & Compliance Advisory
• Assist in new and renewal license applications and regulatory submissions.
• Track and analyse regulatory developments, ensuring the business remains compliant with evolving laws.
• Conduct legal research and advise on the implications of regulatory changes on existing and new products.
• Draft and update internal policies and procedures in line with regulatory updates.
• Provide input and draft responses for customer complaints and legal notices.
3. Risk Management & Legal Governance
• Ensure legal, regulatory, privacy, and reputational risks are minimized through proactive risk assessment and policy development.
• Work closely with internal teams to align contracts and policies with business objectives while ensuring legal compliance
4. Leadership & Mentorship
• Provide guidance and mentorship to junior legal team members.
• Act as an individual contributor while collaborating effectively as a team player.
Ideal Candidate Profile:
• Education: LL.B / LL.M from a reputed institution.
• Experience: 9-12 years post-qualification experience, predominantly in the Fintech sector with a strong focus on the Payments domain.
• Skills & Expertise:
o Strong contract drafting, negotiation, and communication skills.
o Deep understanding of financial sector laws, including corporate law, data privacy regulations, and information security standards.
o Proactive, solution-oriented approach with a keen interest in research and regulatory analysis.
o Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex legal and regulatory frameworks.
