Title: Legal Counsel (Tech + IP)
Company: Hudson Talent Solutions
Location: Singapore, Singapore
Legal Counsel – Technology Group – Singapore
Our client is a privately owned Singapore technology group backed by an independent local private investment firm. Spanning five to six operating entities across the tech space — from well-established businesses to early-stage ventures — this is a newly created, standalone legal role with genuine scope to build and lead the function over time.
The Company
- Singapore-centric private technology group with 200+ headcount across multiple operating entities
- Business lines span systems integration, bespoke customer solutions, gaming, enterprise technology, cloud and infrastructure services, DevOps, crypto wallets (custody/wallet, not trading), digital asset management, payment gateways, and data science/analytics
- Backed by a Singapore-based private investment firm established in 2018
- Regional footprint across Southeast Asia, including technology and operations teams in Vietnam
- Strategy is organic growth and building durable value — no IPO track
- Group-level team growing toward ~20 by year-end
- This role is being carved out of the Group GC’s portfolio to create a dedicated technology legal function, reporting to the COO with a dotted line to the Group GC (who retains corporate and M&A)
- 5 WFO in central location
✅ Responsibilities
- Serve as the standalone legal lead across the group’s full technology footprint, with scope to build and shape the function
- Draft, negotiate and review commercial contracts and technology agreements across the group’s various business lines
- Advise internal stakeholders on legal risk, regulatory implications and the commercial dimensions of business initiatives
- Own the group’s IP portfolio — trademark filings, registration and ongoing maintenance, with patent filing a key priority
- Ensure the group’s operations remain aligned with applicable regulatory and compliance requirements, including data governance and data privacy obligations across multiple jurisdictions
- Manage external counsel relationships on behalf of the directors, with a mandate to bring outside spend down over time
- Handle actual and potential disputes across the group
- Support general corporate matters as needed (preferred but not essential)
Requirements
- Training at a reputable firm and/or meaningful in-house experience within a technology or tech-adjacent business — seniority commensurate with a standalone role
- Strong commercial contract structuring and drafting skills
- Working knowledge of tech sector documentation, data privacy and IP law — genuine IP exposure (particularly patents) is a strong differentiator
- Comfortable with technical subject matter and vocabulary across areas like cloud, DevOps, digital assets and gaming — you don’t need to be a deep specialist in every vertical, but you should navigate the jargon confidently
- Practical, commercially minded problem-solver who delivers workable solutions rather than theoretical advice
- Strong communication skills
