We are seeking Legal Counsel with expertise in EPC contracts support and legal claims management. The role will focus on interpreting EPC contract documents, providing legal advice on related disputes and claims and ensuring compliance with legal and regulatory requirements. The position involves collaborating closely with senior management, project teams and external counsel to mitigate risks, handle claims and protect the company’s interests. This role will require close collaboration with a small, integrated team that will be responsible for reviewing, assessing, validating and managing contractual claims through resolution.
Key Responsibilities:
Legal Advisory:
Provide proactive and strategic legal advice to senior management and various departments on a wide range of issues, including contractual, regulatory and compliance matters.
Interpret laws, rulings and regulations to guide business operations and decision-making.
Draft and review policies, procedures and guidelines to ensure legal compliance.
Contractual Interpretation:
Interpret and provide legal advice on EPC Contract documents.
Review and assess claims in accordance with EPC contractual terms.
Maintain comprehensive documentation for claims, including evidence, status tracking and approvals.
Collaborate with project teams to address and resolve complex claims.
Dispute Support and Resolution:
Assist project teams and external counsel in preparing documentation and presentations for arbitration, mediation or court proceedings.
Provide analysis on claims validity and strength of claim to support dispute resolution efforts.
Risk Management:
Identify and assess legal risks related to business operations, transactions and projects.
Develop strategies to mitigate risks and ensure robust legal safeguards are in place.
Advise on insurance policies, claims and other risk-related matters.
Stakeholder Collaboration:
Work closely with project management and project related teams to ensure seamless communication on claims-related issues.
Provide training and guidance to internal teams on contract interpretation and claims management best practices.
Provide regular updates and summaries to management on contract status and key issues.
Process Implementation and Improvement:
Evaluate current claims and contractual processes, recommending and implementing efficiency enhancements.
Develop and standardize best practices for claims processing, documentation and contractual tracking.
Qualifications:
Education:
Juris Doctor (JD), Bachelor’s degree in Law (LLB) or equivalent.
Experience:
5-7 years of experience, preferably in a corporate, construction or project-based environment.
Experience in contract law, regulatory compliance, claims management and dispute resolution strategies is essential.
Experience with English and Wales law a plus.
Skills:
Strong knowledge of contracts law, EPC claims management and associated legal principles.
Excellent drafting, negotiation and analytical skills.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills to collaborate effectively with stakeholders at all levels.
Proficiency in legal research tools and office software.
Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize in a fast-paced environment. Work closely with multidisciplinary teams, including technical experts and economic consultants.
