INTRODUCTION
elseco is a high technology specialty insurance underwriting agency and Lloyd’s Coverholder.
elseco underwrites on behalf of more than 50 insurance and reinsurance companies including Lloyd’s syndicates. elseco is headquartered in the Dubai International Financial Centre (Dubai, UAE) and is regulated by the Dubai Financial Services Authority. The Group employs some 90 professionals with regulated offices in Dubai, London and Paris.
The company started its activity in 2007 with space insurance and has since grown and diversified into aviation, energy and accident & health insurance.
At the cornerstone of elseco’s group latest evolution is the insurtech platform development. It sits at the very core of the elseco group and is seen as business critical to the elseco’s group future success and growth plans.
JOB PURPOSE / MANDATE:
As a part of the legal team, the successful candidate will be involved in a wide range of corporate projects as well as day-to-day tasks that support various group’s activities.
The candidate is expected to quickly adapt to a fast-paced, evolving environment and manage on an autonomous basis assigned legal tasks within the elseco Group.
Considering the rapid development of the elseco Group, the individual sought is not a specialist in one specific legal domain, but capable to train himself/herself to handle every legal task required for the good functioning of the Group legal department.
We are seeking a motivated individual who thrives in challenging situations outside of their comfort zone and excels in environments that demand adaptability and creative problem-solving.
This is a permanent position with preferred start date as soon as possible.
SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Contract review, development, and management in all areas of the activities of the Group (including polices, TOBAs, NDAs) as and when required;
• Assistance in management of annual renewal of agency agreements;
• Support of various departments and entities within the whole group (underwriting, HR, IT, claims, finance, compliance) from legal perspective;
• Coordination with Compliance Officer on regulatory development and impact on elseco’s Group activities;
• Assist in the corporate housekeeping activities, when required and ensure the company records completeness;
• Assist in the changes and development of existing and new legal structures (including in new jurisdictions) as and when required;
• Assist in handling conflict resolution / litigation process as and when required: on both the operational side (arbitration regarding claims) and the corporate side.
• Provide legal support in strategic projects to include legal requirements, ensuring appropriate and timely identification, assessment, and implementation of such requirements, as and when required.
• Maintain knowledge of the company’s operations and legal documents.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS
• Experience: 3 to 5 years in law firm or as in-house counsel.
• Qualification: Graduate/post-graduate in law, ideally UK qualified.
• Working knowledge of UAE (including DIFC), common law principles and regulatory frameworks.
• Interested to learn and work with new technology tools and systems, and actively contribute to their development.
• Team player and positive attitude to complete tasks energetically and efficiently.
• Based in Dubai.
• Knowledge of insurance law is a plus.
