Job Description
Contract Drafting and Review
Draft, review, and negotiate a wide range of contracts, including transportation agreements, warehousing contracts, service agreements, and vendor contracts.
Ensure that contracts comply with relevant laws and regulations and reflect the best interests of the company.
Identify potential legal risks and provide proactive advice and solutions to mitigate them.
Develop and implement strategies to protect the company’s interests and minimize legal exposure.
Regulatory Compliance
Stay updated on federal, state, and local regulations pertaining to logistics, transportation, and warehouse management.
Provide guidance and support to ensure compliance with industry-specific regulations, including DOT, FMCSA, OSRA, and others.
Legal Research
Conduct legal research to stay current with evolving legal trends and industry-specific issues.
Translate legal findings into actionable recommendations for the company.
Assist in resolving disputes, including contract disputes, claims, and litigation matters.
Collaborate with outside counsel when necessary.
Other Duties
Perform additional duties as assigned or needed.
Work across time zones and cultures with a cross-functional group of stakeholders.
Assist with ad-hoc or special projects as requested.
Qualifications
Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an ABA-accredited law school.
Active license to practice law in Texas.
4+ years of legal practice, including at least 1 year in logistics, transportation, and warehouse management-related transactional experience.
Working knowledge of industry-specific regulations such as DOT, FMCSA, OSRA, and logistics and warehousing contracts.
Experience with different modes of transportation (e.g., truckload, flatbed, LTL, railroad, ocean, import & export).
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, meet strict deadlines, and handle multiple demands simultaneously.
Excellent client relationship and communication skills, with the ability to work with diverse individuals with varying degrees of legal exposure.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Exceptional attention to detail.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and ability to conduct internet research and learn internal contract management tools.
Physical Demands:
The position requires the ability to talk and hear during work activities.
The position requires standing, walking, using hands to handle or feel, and reaching with hands and arms.
Dexterity to write and use a computer keyboard and mouse.
Ability to multitask and solve complex issues in a fast-paced environment.
Occasional lifting of office products, materials, and supplies up to 20 pounds.
