We have a fantastic opportunity for a Legal Counsel to join our in-house Legal team. In this role you will provide trusted advice across the organisation to assist teams to deliver good customer outcomes in everything they do.
In this role you will report to the GM Legal – Customer with a focus on providing legal support for Kiwibank’s retail and business customer products, including home loans, credit cards, everyday banking and payments, and providing legal advice on key legislation such as the CCCFA, FMCA and FTA to support these products. You will also support Kiwibank’s transformation work and have a key role in responding to frontline queries via our Legal Helpdesk. From time to time this focus may need to flex with other members of the wider Legal team due to workloads or professional development.

At Kiwibank, we will help you build on your strengths and develop new skills, but in the meantime, we would love to hear from you if you have some of the following:
3+ years’ experience as a legal counsel (either in a law firm or in-house) in banking/financial services, ideally with CCCFA/FMCA knowledge or direct experience.
Tertiary qualification in Law and current practicing certificate (or ability to hold).
An open, growth mindset with a willingness to learn and advise on a broad range of issues.
Adaptable and resilient, with the skillset to support an organisation that is undergoing a period of transformation.
Proactive approach and ability to work independently, as well as part of a team, and manage own time and workload.
Well-developed analytical skills allowing for effective and sustainable problem solving.
Strong, clear communication skills and ability to influence.
Good understanding of commercial and strategic context in which legal advice is given and ability to tailor advice appropriately and prioritise work based on the strategic importance to Kiwibank or the risk profile.
