As we continue to expand, we are seeking a talented and experienced Legal Counsel, Corporate Affairs.
The Legal Counsel, Corporate Affairs will serve as a key advisor on all matters related to corporate & government affairs, legal affairs, external communications, public relations and stakeholder engagement. The Legal Counsel, Corporate Affairs will provide strategic legal guidance to support the company’s external affairs’ initiatives and ensure alignment with legal and regulatory requirements.
Responsibilities and Duties
Engage with government officials and industry associations to form strategic partnerships, advocate for favorable policies and regulatory outcomes.
Monitor legislative and regulatory developments relevant to the company’s business interests.
Develop and maintain relationships with external stakeholders, including community groups, NGOs, and advocacy organizations.
Apply for governmental approvals including but not limited to licenses, permits and authorizations etc.
Provide legal support for stakeholder engagement initiatives and corporate social responsibility programs.
Provide legal guidance on public relations strategies, media relations, and corporate communications.
Ensure compliance with legal and ethical standards in all external affairs activities.
Provide accurate and timely counsel to corporate management team in a variety of legal related matters.
Collaborating with management to devise efficient defense strategies, apply effective risk management techniques and offer proactive advises on possible legal issues and evaluate different risk factors.
Draft and solidify agreements, contracts, and other legal documents to ensure the company’s full legal rights
Provide clarification on legal language or specifications to the board, HODs, management internally
Perform cross-functionally / organization to manage different projects and execution of new initiatives.
Identify risks along with propose alternative structures to reduce risks involved in prospective transactions.
Resolves legal matters including managing disputes with third party, litigation, and government enforcement actions
AD-HOC tasked by immediate superior / assigned by senior management
Qualifications & Requirements
Completed a Bachelor of Law (LLB) undergraduate degree or a Juris Doctor (JD) postgraduate degree in Senegal/Mauritania
Minimum 8 years of experience practicing law in Senegal/Mauritania, with a focus on external affairs, public relations, or government relations
A strong preference for candidates with palm plantation industry exposure
Strong knowledge of relevant legal and regulatory frameworks, including communications law, lobbying regulations and political compliance
Adaptable and a versatile mindset, comfortable working in stressful and fast-paced environment
A hands-on go getter who is commercially savvy
Preferably proven experience / records as a legal counsel in business environment
