Our client, an European chemical company, is looking for its Legal Counsel role.
The company also plays a key role in supporting Japan’s ongoing infrastructure renewal and modernization efforts.
About the Role
A global organization is seeking a commercially minded Legal Counsel to support its business operations in Japan. This position partners closely with business leaders to provide practical legal advice, manage legal and compliance risks, and contribute to strategic decision-making in a dynamic international environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Draft, review, and negotiate a wide range of commercial agreements.
- Provide practical legal and compliance advice to business stakeholders.
- Support internal investigations and regulatory compliance initiatives.
- Assess legal risks and recommend pragmatic business solutions.
- Deliver legal training and promote compliance awareness.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams including Finance, HR, Procurement, Supply Chain, Operations, and senior management.
- Support continuous improvement of legal processes and governance.
Requirements
- Qualified lawyer in Japan or another recognized jurisdiction.
- 3+ years’ post-qualification experience in private practice and/or in-house.
- Strong experience with commercial contracts.
- Solid understanding of Japanese commercial law and corporate legal matters.
- Fluent Japanese and business-level English (Including speaking)
- Practical mindset with strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
Preferred
- Experience in areas such as compliance, competition law, employment, litigation, corporate transactions, or commercial contracting.
- Background in an international or multinational business environment.
- Experience supporting manufacturing, industrial, or cross-border operations is an advantage.
Salary range is about 8 – 14M JPY including bonus.
