Job Description

The Legal Counsel will support the Project team and the Legal Director on various legal and contractual matters including, but not limited to, the drafting and negotiation of agreements, templates, contractual interpretation, the handling of claims and litigation and dispute resolution proceedings.

Under the Legal Director’s supervision, the Legal Counsel will, among other things:

Draft, negotiate and review subcontracts and template documents in collaboration with the Procurement department.

Provide Construction Act legal advice.

Provide support in litigation and dispute resolution proceedings.

Provide support to the Property team in respect of access and permit matters.

Advise the Contract Management team in respect of the administration of contracts, including design agreements and subcontracts.

Draft and review correspondence in support of Project Agreement variations and claims.

Conduct legal research and draft memoranda.

Qualifications

5-7 years of experience in litigation or corporate counsel roles

Candidates must be licensed to practice law in Ontario

Experience in construction, engineering, or related industries is a significant asset

Experience on P3 and other large complex construction projects is a significant asset

Experience with dispute resolution is an asset

Excellent oral and written communication skills

Intellectual curiosity and great commercial judgment

The ability to establish and maintain strong relationships and trust with all stakeholders

Strong inter-personal skills, including resiliency
