Job Description:
– Responsibilities:
– Support the company’s legal team and Rakuten Group’s businesses in the APAC region.
– Develop a strong understanding of the company’s and Rakuten Group’s business activities and structure, and the company’s role as a Regional Head Quarters within Rakuten Group.
– Develop a strong relationship with internal business clients and provide general legal advice on the day-to-day operations to the company and its business units while advancing business interest. A significant proportion of the work will be centered on the company’s and Rakuten Group’s operations and business activities.
– Advise on a variety of topics, including but not limited to operational, employment, intellectual property, privacy and data protection issues.
– Negotiate, draft and review agreements, contracts, and other legal documents.
– Review, set up and improve existing processes and guidelines.
– Perform general corporate and legal housekeeping.
– Identify and manage legal risks, litigation and disputes.
– Liaise with and manage external counsels.
Key requirements:
– Have at least 3 years of relevant legal experience gained at a reputable law firm and/or as an in-house counsel with exposure to the APAC region.
– Have a law degree. Must be a qualified lawyer in a common law jurisdiction or in Japan.
– Experience in at least one or more of the following industries or business areas would be advantageous: technology, SASS, advertising.
– Able to respond to the demands of a
fast-paced
industry, multi-task and adapt to an international climate.
– Must have excellent written and verbal
communication skills
, including the ability to convey legal information to non-legal stakeholders clearly and concisely.
– Fluency in English is a must. Japanese or Mandarin fluency is advantageous.
– Must be able to follow instructions effectively and possess strong
critical thinking
and complex
problem solving
skills.
– Must possess a proactive
hands-on
attitude, be patient and have an eye for detail.
– Must be a self-motivated individual who can work both independently or in a
team environment
