About The Role
Join Swinburne's Legal, Risk & Compliance team and play a key role in delivering strategic, pragmatic legal advice that supports effective decision-making and the management of legal risk across the University.
Reporting to the Senior Legal Counsel and Manager, Legal Operations, you will provide legal advice across a broad range of matters, with a strong focus on regulatory and integrity matters, including privacy, freedom of information, human rights and equal opportunity issues, policy review and administrative law matters. You will be an agile operator, eager to provide legal advice on any matters arising in a university context with appropriate support from your manager and the team.
Working closely with stakeholders across the University, you will provide clear, pragmatic and risk-informed advice, helping to ensure Swinburne meets its statutory obligations while maintaining best practice governance and compliance standards. You will also engage with external parties as required and contribute to consistent, defensible and compliant outcomes across the institution.
This is a pivotal role that supports sound decision-making and minimises legal risk in a dynamic and evolving context.
About You
To be suitable for this role you will need to have experience in:
- providing legal advice and support in a wide range of regulatory matters with strong statutory interpretation skills
- representing your clients in a range of dispute resolution contexts, advising, managing and running these matters, and where appropriate, liaising with external legal advisors and insurers
- advising on the development, implementation and application of policies and procedures to support a highly regulated organisation
- applying your legal skills to any matters that arise within the university context as required
- or an enthusiasm for, embracing new ways of working and contributing to legal operations improvements to support a dynamic and service-oriented team

Qualifications
- Admitted to practice law in Victoria
- 2 to 4 years post qualification experience legal experience, preferably in a complex public sector entity with some experience in representing your clients in courts and tribunals. Applicants with broad general legal practice experience and a keen interest in working in the university sector are encouraged to apply.
