The Role
As Gate expands its global, fully remote footprint across multiple complex jurisdictions (including LATAM, Europe, and Asia), managing international employment risks and safeguarding our IP assets has become a mission-critical priority. Reporting directly to the Head of Legal, you will step into a fast-paced, high-autonomou environment to serve as the go-to legal partner for our Global HR and business teams. This is not a passive advisory role; you will own our global employment legal framework from scratch, turning complex cross-border labor compliance and IP protection into operational certainties that directly enable our rapid workforce scaling.
What You'll Do
· Architect and update regionalized employment templates, contractor agreements, and localized HR policies across key operating jurisdictions to eliminate cross-border compliance risks.
· Resolve complex employment matters globally, delivering actionable legal blueprints for PIPs, sensitive separations, and labor disputes while minimizing company liability.
· Manage the end-to-end global IP portfolio, including trademarks and domain registrations, coordinating with external counsel to aggressively defend Gate’s brand assets.
· Negotiate and execution-proof high-value vendor, SaaS, and infrastructure contracts, ensuring favorable commercial terms and robust liability protections for the group.
· Draft and continuously refine user-facing product terms, legal disclaimers, and token listing agreements to shield the business from regulatory and operational friction.
· Drive cross-jurisdictional legal research on emerging digital asset regulations, translating complex statutory changes into practical compliance strategies for product teams.
What We're Looking For
Must-haves
· Qualified Legal Professional: Holds a recognized law degree (LL.B, LL.M, or J.D.) with 3+ years of post-qualification experience specializing in employment law or cross-border commercial practice.
· Cross-Border Employment Executor: Proven track record of independently managing employment compliance and contractor relations across multiple international jurisdictions (experience in tech or remote-first companies is a major plus).
· Commercial Contract Closer: Demonstrated ability to redline, negotiate, and finalize complex vendor and software licensing agreements without relying heavily on template-matching.
· Bilingual Communicator: Professional proficiency in written and spoken English, paired with native-level Mandarin Chinese to effectively bridge communications with core technical and executive stakeholders.
· Remote-First Mindset: Comfortable navigating ambiguity and driving projects to completion independently within a decentralized, fast-moving Web3 environment.
Strong-to-haves
· Crypto & FinTech Insider: Prior in-house experience at a crypto exchange, Web3 project, or traditional FinTech institution, with a solid grasp of digital asset service terms.
· IP Portfolio Manager: Practical experience managing international trademark portfolios and coordinating localized external counsel across various regions.
