What’s The Role
The Legal Counsel Supply Chain sits within the Legal Services Integrated Gas team, supporting Supply Chain organisation and reporting to Managing Counsel, Supply Chain.
Supply Chain is an E2E business, generating value for shareholders via delivery of non-hydrocarbon goods and services to Shell’s global businesses and assets, building a high-performing and purpose-driven culture by actively driving This is Shell, powering progress strategy. Legal counsel Supply Chain helps to support 1 EVP,1 SVP, 4VPS (IGU, DSR, Projects, Strategy and Operations, Strategic Suppliers & categories) 19 GMs and a workforce of around 2000 Supply Chain professionals, partnering with Shell Businesses to manage $42bn of non-hydrocarbon spend across c.22,000 contracts p/a.
What You’ll Be Doing
The Legal Counsel, Supply Chain will provide professional, timely, cost effective and practical legal advice and support to the Supply Chain organization, across the Shell value chain. The role requires an enthusiastic experienced commercial lawyer, with an interest in understanding, supporting and working closely with businesses across the end-to-end value chain.
In particular, the Legal Counsel, Supply Chain will provide legal support for i) macro events (e.g. tariffs) ii) high value, high risk strategic contracts iii) supplier claims/ pre dispute contract management iv) support for IP, DP, IT, E&C, HSSE queries v) digitalization and continuous improvement programmes.
- Works with SC business in China, supporting all of SC organization that is China based with additional support for other global SC work as required
- Providing legal advice, negotiating and drafting contracts, resolving commercial differences in both Chinese and English language.
- Able to provide advice and training sessions in Mandarin.
- Negotiate and draft high risk and high value contracts and other legal documentation.
- Advise with respect to proposed commercial strategies including claims management and pre dispute advice.
- Ensure that legal considerations, including mitigation of legal risks identified, are considered in operations, planning activities and contracting.
- Act as legal focal point for SC GMs/SC leads; building and sustaining strong working relationships.
- Proposing initiatives to enable and drive digitalization agenda and continuous improvement in the efficiency of legal support by the SC legal team.
- Deliver trainings to SC and businesses on specific legal areas of concern including basic and advanced contract trainings and ethics & compliance trainings.
- Ensure documents reflect accurately commercial decisions, always consistent with legal obligations, the Shell General Business Principles and the SPF.
What You Bring
- Experience and Qualifications
- Law degree or professional legal qualification and entitlement to practice in Malaysia/China
- Fluent written and spoken Chinese (Mandarin) language skills.
- Law degree or professional legal qualification and entitlement to practice in Poland/UK/MY.
- 10+ PQE in an in-house or law firm environment.
- Experience of providing legal support to Supply Chain/procurement business (or equivalent).
- Experience in delivering training to diverse audiences in both formal and informal settings.
- Ability to clearly explain legal risks, develop sound mitigation strategies and find acceptable commercial solutions.
- Experience in creating and delivering optimization and change management programs would be beneficial.
- Fluent written and spoken English.
