About the Role

As Legal & Compliance Manager at UNCO OIL, you handle the legal and compliance work that keeps our upstream business running smoothly and safely. You draft, review and negotiate the contracts our operations depend on — drilling, facilities and services agreements, NDAs, MOUs — and support the senior team on PSC, JOA and farm-in / farm-out matters. You help implement and monitor the compliance framework covering anti-corruption, sanctions and trade controls, and you keep our regulatory, licensing and corporate-governance obligations on track across operating countries. You coordinate external counsel on disputes and specialist matters, and provide practical, business-minded legal advice day to day. In a lean independent, this is a hands-on role where your work directly protects the company and keeps deals and operations moving.

Key Responsibilities

  • Draft, review and negotiate operational and commercial contracts (drilling, facilities, services, NDAs, MOUs).
  • Support PSC, JOA, farm-in / farm-out and other upstream agreements under the direction of senior management.
  • Help implement and monitor the compliance framework: anti-corruption (FCPA / UK Bribery Act), sanctions and trade controls.
  • Track regulatory, licensing, permitting and corporate-governance obligations across operating countries.
  • Coordinate external counsel on disputes, litigation and specialist legal matters.
  • Maintain contract records and templates and provide day-to-day legal advice to the business.

Required Qualifications

  • Law degree (LLB / JD) and qualification to practice in a relevant jurisdiction.
  • 6+ years of legal experience, including in-house or law-firm work in oil & gas or another international / energy sector.
  • Solid experience with commercial and upstream contracts (PSC / JOA an advantage).
  • Working knowledge of compliance, anti-corruption and cross-border regulatory requirements.
  • Fluent English; strong drafting, negotiation and communication skills.

Preferred / Nice to Have

  • Experience in the Middle East, Central Asia or Africa and with NOC / government counterparties.
  • Dispute-resolution / arbitration or M&A support experience.
  • Additional language (Arabic, Russian, French) a strong plus.

What We Offer

  • Competitive, tax-efficient international package with rotational schedule where applicable, mobilization support and global medical insurance.
  • Structured technical and leadership development with a dual career ladder — you can grow as a technical expert or as a manager.
  • The chance to shape assets and build capability from the ground up in a growing independent oil company.
  • A lean, fast-moving, multicultural environment where capable people take real ownership and advance quickly.
