At M800, we prioritize regulatory compliance, network integrity, and total customer data security. We are looking for a Legal & Compliance Manager who understands both the legal landscape and the technology behind modern communication systems to join our growing team.
Role Overview
We are seeking an in-house Legal Counsel who bridges the gap between law and technology. In this role, you will be responsible for contract drafting/review, telecommunications regulatory compliance, and data protection management. You will work closely with cross-functional technical and business teams, translating complex legal and regulatory requirements into clear, actionable advice for the enterprise.
Key Responsibilities
● Contract Drafting & Review:
○ Draft, review, and negotiate various commercial agreements, including global carrier agreements, enterprise customer contracts, vendor agreements, and software/API licensing.
○ Ensure clear legal clarity while balancing commercial objectives and business agility.
● Regulatory Compliance & Anti-Fraud Oversight:
○ Monitor and ensure company-wide adherence to Hong Kong and international telecommunications regulations and privacy laws (e.g., GDPR, PDPO).
○ Identify legal risks in technology routing and telecommunication architectures, ensuring all communication channels operate strictly within authorized, legitimate international gateways.
○ Protect company and customer data assets by preventing illicit, high-risk, or non-compliant routing methods.
● Tech & Business Legal Advisory:
○ Provide practical, easy-to-understand (“plain English”) legal guidance to engineers, product managers, and business leaders on technology-related legal issues.
○ Conduct legal due diligence and risk assessments on new IT/telecom products, AI communication tools, and infrastructure projects.
Requirements
● Qualifications: Bachelor’s Degree in Law (LL.B.) or Juris Doctor (J.D.) from a recognized institution. Admission as a qualified solicitor in Hong Kong or another common law jurisdiction is preferred.
● Experience: 3 to 6+ years of post-qualification legal experience, preferably with in-house legal exposure in Telecommunications, IT, SaaS, Big Data, or Tech sectors.
● Tech-Savvy & Domain Knowledge:
○ Strong familiarity with tech/telecom concepts (e.g., network communications, APIs, VoIP, cloud services, data security architecture).
○ Ability to quickly understand technical workflows and evaluate legal implications in IT/Telecom product designs.
● Commercial Mindset & Clear Communication:
○ Ability to translate complex legal and regulatory terms into practical, business-friendly recommendations for non-legal stakeholders.
● Languages: Excellent command of written and spoken English and Traditional/Simplified Chinese (Mandarin and/or Cantonese).
