Role:
Verrus is looking for a Legal Associate to join its lean, high-impact legal team. This is a full-time, hybrid role ideally based out of our California office in the Bay Area or Santa Monica, reporting directly to the General Counsel.
You will be a generalist on a lean team, and an integral part of the legal function supporting a fast-growing infrastructure developer by contributing both substantive legal work and operational work that keeps the legal function running. You will own the day-to-day operations of the legal team: managing routine commercial agreements, coordinating multi-state corporate compliance, keeping board governance records in order, and ensuring that incoming legal work is routed efficiently to the right people. You are equally comfortable doing substantive legal work and rolling up your sleeves on the operational tasks that keep a lean team running.
You bring a strong foundation in transactional or corporate law, a bias for organization, and a genuine enthusiasm for deploying AI tools as a core part of how you practice. You thrive in environments where precision and speed both matter.
Responsibilities
- Draft, review, and manage routine commercial agreements including NDAs, vendor agreements, and other standard-risk contracts; serve as first point of contact for incoming agreement requests from internal business partners.
- Assemble, organize, and file Commercial and Board governance documents including written consents, board resolutions, and NDAs; maintain consistent naming, dating, and version control standards across all entity files and databases.
- Support senior attorneys and outside counsel with legal research, diligence preparation, signature routing and matter management across corporate, real estate, and infrastructure transactions.
- Manage relationships with external counsel and registered agents to maintain multi-state corporate compliance across all active project and corporate jurisdictions. Coordinate routine compliance and filing matters; coordinate billing, track deliverables, and flag issues for escalation.
- Leverage AI tools within the boundaries of Verrus’ AI policy as a standard and to increase yours and the team effectiveness as part of your daily workflow.
Minimum Qualifications
- J.D. from an ABA-accredited law school.
- Admitted to practice in at least one U.S. jurisdiction; California bar admission preferred, or actively pursuing California admission.
- 0–2 years of experience; law firm or in-house internship or clerkship in a corporate, transactional.
- Exceptional organizational skills; able to manage multiple workstreams simultaneously with high attention to detail in a lean, fast-moving environment.
- Strong written communication skills; ability to draft and communicate clearly and concisely.
Preferred Qualifications
- Background or demonstrated interest in infrastructure, real estate, energy, or technology industries.
Compensation
The annual base salary range for this position is $125,000-$160,000. Salary is only one part of Verrus’ comprehensive compensation package, which also includes a discretionary bonus, equity, general health benefits and paid time off. Compensation is determined by multiple factors, including: market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
