Role Description This full-time, on-site Legal Assistant – Worker’s Compensation Focus role is based in Knoxville, TN. The Legal Assistant will support attorneys handling workers’ compensation matters by organizing case files, maintaining calendars, scheduling hearings, and managing correspondence with clients, insurers, medical providers, and courts. Daily responsibilities include preparing and formatting legal documents, filing pleadings and forms, gathering and organizing medical records and other evidence, and updating case management systems. The role also involves answering phones, greeting visitors, processing mail, and performing general administrative tasks to keep the office running efficiently. The Legal Assistant will collaborate closely with legal team members to ensure deadlines are met, documentation is accurate, and clients receive clear, timely communication throughout the workers’ compensation process.
Qualifications
- Strong foundation in law and workers’ compensation concepts, with the ability to understand case procedures and legal terminology.
- Proficiency in legal document preparation, including drafting, formatting, proofreading, and filing pleadings, correspondence, and forms.
- Experience as a Legal Assistant or in a similar legal support role, with familiarity with case management systems and law office procedures.
- Excellent communication skills, including clear written and verbal communication with clients, attorneys, and external stakeholders.
- Solid administrative assistance skills, such as calendar management, scheduling, file organization (paper and electronic), and data entry.
- High attention to detail, strong organizational and time-management abilities, and capacity to manage multiple cases and deadlines.
- Proficiency with common office software (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite) and comfort learning legal-specific software.
- An associate degree, paralegal certificate, or related legal coursework is preferred.
- Prior experience in workers’ compensation is required.
