The Missouri State Teachers Association is a state-wide organization with over 40,000 educator members. MSTA provides a variety of services to members including assistance with employment-related legal issues through in-house legal staff and a network of attorneys across the state. We are currently seeking a Staff Attorney to operate out of our Columbia, MO headquarters. You will work with two other attorneys and a legal assistant to answer member’s questions on FMLA, ADA, EEO, and MCHR. You will also field questions concerning education law under the Teacher Tenure Act, IDEA, FERPA, etc. In addition, you will help create and provide training on these topics to members and coworkers. You will also provide assistance to local units on labor issues, negotiation of contracts and the bargaining process.
Minimum requirements include:
License to practice law in MO
Approximately 3-5 years’ experience in employment and/or education law with experience in public sector collective bargaining preferred
Must be able to work independently and juggle a demanding workload
Excellent communication and presentation skills
Must be flexible, creative and patient when responding to member and coworker inquiries
Available for occasional statewide travel
