Role Overview:

The Assistant General Counsel (AGC) sits on the PIC Leadership Team and works as a strategic business partner to the PIC business globally providing legal advice that pro-actively creates value, supports business operations and strategic goals whilst managing and mitigating the risk profile. The AGC is a member of the Global Legal Leadership Team of Genus Plc and as such, is responsible for the design, creation and implementation of global legal strategies, processes and policies across the Group.

The AGC is responsible for identifying and managing material legal risks, ensuring compliance with applicable laws and regulations as well as offering sound legal advice to senior leaders and other stakeholders. This position requires a high level of professionalism, discretion, and the ability to handle complex legal matters with confidence as well as the ability to lead, influence and be a part of global leadership teams.

This is a critical leadership role both in PIC and within the Global Legal Function and as such requires the ability to influence, lead legal and business projects, manage, coach and mentor junior colleagues, engage with continuous improvement process management and operate through the Genus values.

The salary range for this position is $195,000.00 – $225,000.00 USD. The compensation provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. Genus considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.

The preferred location for the position is Hendersonville, TN, but for the right candidate, hybrid or remote work with travel may be considered.

You Will:
Legal Strategy: As part of the Global Legal Leadership Team, develop and implement legal strategies that align with Genus Plc’s global business objectives and support its growth and development.
Compliance: Ensure the company’s compliance with applicable laws and regulations as well as corporate policies. Implement Genus’s compliance framework within PIC.
Risk Management: Identify and mitigate legal risks associated with the company’s operations and transactions across multiple jurisdictions.
Contract Management: Oversee the drafting, review, and negotiation of contracts and agreements to protect the company’s interests globally.
Litigation Management: Manage and oversee any litigation or disputes involving the company, working closely with external counsel as needed.
Advisory Role: Provide proactive legal advice and support to the business leadership team on a wide range of legal issues, including corporate governance, intellectual property, employment law, and regulatory matters in various countries.
Training: Develop and deliver training programs to educate employees on legal and compliance issues.
Collaboration: As part of the Global Legal Leadership Team, work closely with legal functional peers and colleagues to ensure consistency and alignment in legal practices and policies across the organization.
Influence and Collaboration: Build strong relationships with key stakeholders across the business to influence decision-making and drive legal initiatives. Collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams to achieve business goals.
Proactive Approach: Anticipate legal issues and provide proactive solutions to mitigate risks and support business objectives.
Team Leadership: Lead and manage a small team of legal professionals, providing guidance, mentorship, and support.
Requirements:

Travel – Expected to travel as required by the needs of the business

Education – JD degree or equivalent legal qualification US Based

Licenses/Certifications – Membership in a recognized bar association or legal body.

Experience:

10+ years of legal experience, with significant in-house experience preferred. Life Sciences background preferred, but not essential.
Proven track record of delivering business-minded and solution-orientated advice combined with the ability to communicate complex legal concepts effectively
Experience in handling complex legal matters and providing strategic advice.
Excellent analytical, negotiation, and communication skills.
Experience working in a global organization and collaborating with international teams.
Leadership experience in managing a team of legal professionals.
Excellent drafting skills.
Experience in designing and implementing legal efficiency projects and processes.
