Position: Legal Assistant (Part Time)
Location: New York
The New York Stem Cell Foundation (NYSCF) Research Institute is a highly successful nonprofit whose mission is to accelerate cures through stem cell research.
We are seeking a diligent and proactive Part-Time Legal Assistant to support the NYSCF legal & IP team. Reporting to the AVP, IP, Tech Transactions and Legal Affairs, you will assist with legal research, IP portfolio management, and compliance tracking. You describe yourself as detail-oriented and are able to handle multiple assignments  ideal candidate will flourish in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment.
This position will be onsite at our offices located in Midtown, Manhattan. This position is flexible with a 15-25 hour work week in a part-time capacity with work hours from 9:30 am to 5:30 pm, Monday-Friday.
What You’ll Do:
Support legal research on intellectual property, compliance, and life sciences regulations
Support intellectual property portfolio management (patents, trademarks, copyrights)
Support legal compliance initiatives, including tracking and reporting requirements.
In consultation with the AVP, conduct preliminary research on legal matters and report initial findings to the AVP
Provide general administrative support and handle confidential information
Coordinate discussions with researchers concerning ongoing third-party licensing compliance, including protocol adaptations
Perform administrative and other duties as assigned
What We’re Looking For:
Bachelor’s degree (Pre-Law, Business, Political Science, or related field)
Strong interest in IP, legal transactions, and life sciences
Ability to handle multiple, concurrent projects and generate high-quality work.
Strong organizational skills and ability to manage competing priorities.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Excellent research skills, including use of legal research engines (e.g., Westlaw Practical Law)
Proficient in Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, and Adobe Acrobat Pro.
Experience working as part of a team, with strong cooperation and collaboration skills
Ability to take initiative, adapt, and work independently.

The compensation for this role is $35 per hour and the Part-Time Legal Assistant is expected to work between 15-25 hours per week. This position offers a hybrid schedule with at least 3-days on-site per week, however, work location is flexible with approval from the AVP. NYSCF’s Hours are: 9:30-5:30pm.
