The Role: This is a full-time Paralegal position. We are seeking a highly skilled and personable candidate with 5+ years of hands-on experience in estate planning and post death trust and estate administration. This is an excellent opportunity to contribute to a growing firm and work closely with attorneys on complex and sophisticated matters.
Experience and Education Required:
Minimum 5+ years of Trusts and Estates paralegal experience
Paralegal Certificate or Business and Professions Code Qualification
Qualifications:
Comprehensive understanding of the California Probate Code and trust administration procedures
Experience with estate tax return preparation is highly desirable
Drafting, writing, and communication skills with a high attention to detail
Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel) and Adobe Acrobat Pro
Experience with legal practice management software, document management systems and electronic filing service providers
Adept at managing multiple complex matters from start to finish
Ability to anticipate needs and proactively manage deadlines in a fast-paced environment
Strong analytical, organizational, and time management skills
Professional integrity, accountability and ability to work independently
Ability to work effectively with clients, attorneys, and other team members
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Assist partners in all aspects of trust and estate administration, including probate proceedings
Draft and prepare legal documents, including estate planning documents, petitions, accountings, and other court filings
Assist partners with calculations/Excel spreadsheet preparation for advance planning needs (such as NumberCruncher or Excel calculations)
Attend initial administration meetings with partners and clients
Manage case files, organize and maintain documents, and ensure all deadlines are met
Communicate with clients, beneficiaries, and other parties involved in the administration process
Gather and analyze financial information, including asset valuation and tax-related documents
Assist in the preparation of Federal Estate Tax Returns (Form 706) and other IRS filings
Coordinate with courts, financial institutions, and other professionals
Conduct legal research and stay updated on changes in trust and estates law and local rules
Edit and proofread documents for accuracy and completeness
Transmit documents for signature or e-signature
File petitions and other documents with the court in compliance with electronic filing requirements
Communicate and obtain information from/for internal team and external clients
Maintain and update attorney mailing lists and client trackers
Maintain confidentiality of client and firm matters
Support partners and clients by reviewing, verifying, and routing correspondence, reports and legal documents
