The Immigration Practice Group Supervisor will supervise and train team paralegals while focusing on client service, process improvements and supporting attorneys and practice group managers in our highly specialized Immigration Department.
Duties & Responsibilities
Collaborates with shareholders, attorneys and practice group managers to supervise and oversee paralegal team’s work product and ensures deadlines are met
Leads the paralegal team by providing training, new hire orientation, guidance, ongoing performance feedback, and annual performance evaluations
Identifies employees who may require additional training and oversight and works with them to achieve performance expectations
Focuses on innovation, improvement and implementation of process efficiencies for effectiveness within the practice group
Creates solutions through use of technology, and provides guidance to others on technical issues
Collaborates with team leadership on team hiring needs
Mentors paralegals, particularly in case management and client specific procedures and requirements
Conducts internal training programs relevant to practice area needs
Manages various administrative duties; maintains case management database, directs client contact- phone calls, emails, and postal correspondence
Effectively communicates with clients regarding procedural and case processing issues, identifies client immigration solutions and understands current client activity
Files and monitors applications and petitions with appropriate government agencies
Prepares petitions/applications for various immigrant visas (PERM, I-140, CP, AOS, Naturalization, etc.) and non-immigrant visas (H-1B, L, E-1/2, TN, O-1, J)
Processes I-485; submits applications for employment authorization document; travel document, replacement I-94 and I-90
Changes and files extensions of statuses, including B2; processes fiancé/finance petition
Submits and files I-751 (Removal of Conditions)
Prepares responses to requests for evidence
Researches law, procedures and keeps track of immigration law updates
Contacts USCIS and U.S. consulate/embassies, schedules visa appointment interviews
Liaises with government agencies (DOL, USCIS, NVC) to troubleshoot issues as necessary

Requires manual dexterity to dial a telephone, enter data into a computer, handle objects and operate tools
Strong problem-solving skills, takes initiative and uses good judgment, excellent follow-up skills
Qualifications & Prior Experience
Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience
Minimum of five (5) years International Business Immigration experience within a law firm with demonstrated knowledge of complex issues within the Immigration practice area
Experience in preparing immigrant and non-immigrant visas
Computer proficiency in Windows-based software and Microsoft Office Suite applications including Word, PowerPoint, Excel and Outlook
Familiar with immigration case management database systems
Exceptional computer skills with the ability to learn new software applications quickly
